Frank Sinatra captured live in performance at London's Royal Festival Hall in 1971. Features an introduction from Frank's former 'High Society' co-star, Princess Grace of Monaco. Includes 'One For My Baby', 'My Way' and 'You Make Me Feel So Young'.
Recorded shortly before his first farewell concert, this is Sinatra in great form - but this reviewer has a couple of reservations. The voice has been better on some of the other DVDs in this series, and the concert's length is brief. But what makes it such compulsive viewing is Sinatra's timing and command. Out of all his recorded concerts in this series, this is one that I kept returning to more frequently; the reason being that it is Sinatra at his most relaxed.
He brushes aside a few forgotten lyrics with a smirk and a shrug of the shoulders... he jokes with friends in the audience... he revels in the superb musicianship of the orchestra filled to bursting with London's top session musicians.
Most of the songs are superb: from the obvious crowd-pleasers such as "Lady Is a Tramp" and "I've Got You Under My Skin" through to lesser-performed gems like "I Have Dreamed" and a spell-binding "I Get Along Without You Very Well".
In short, it's a marvellous example of Sinatra in great all-round form, with his performance fuelled by a receptive and charmed audience.
Sinatra's Live Concert at The Festival Hall recorded shortly befor his "retirement" finds him in fine form and performance.I think its overlooked that his voice was subject to many rigours and you can tell he paces his performance on some songs. Thankfully he's still using the Nelson Riddle arrangement of Lady Is A Tramp which I think was so superior to the latter post retirement era version. The highlights for me are "Lady" I Have Dreamed and a beautifully sensitive version of I Get Along Without You Very Well. There is a CD version of this concert on the budget "Entertainers Label" under the title My Way.Like all of Sinatra's live DVD concert performances a must for all Sinatra fans.
Bought this for my dad he loves frank Sinatra, been trying to get this DVD for a long time so when I see it on amazon finally, I bought it, my only gripe is, it was very expensive
