This 10 disc box set is a compilation of many of Frank Clarkes earlier DVDs and fantastic value on the face of it. You get 40 projects explained in enough detail, with enough banter and interest, that there are many hours of watching and painting pleasure to be had here

If you have never heard of Frank he is a self taught artist who has a lovely (Irish) way of helping pretty much anyone produce art they can be proud of. Since he started out knowing nothing (and learnt the hard way) he makes sure you (as a beginnner) have all the information you need to produce pretty much exactly the same picture that he does. The equipment and materials are explained in an accessible way and you can see (and understand) exactly what he is up to at every stage. His website also sells all the things he uses (at sensible prices with free delivery) so you can have exactly the same kit too if you want

What is also great about the approach Frank uses is the simplicity. He explains just enough about composition to get you going without getting technical, he only uses (at most) 8 colours and demonstrates the amazing variety you can achieve from them. He does most of the painting with 1 big brush (and you can use a simple 1" decorators brush to get started if you want) and has a real fast and loose style that is hard not to admire.

So why not 5 stars? Well yes there are 40 projects but of those only about half a dozen where pictures we really wanted to paint (myself and young daughter do this together working from the DVD) though I suspect in time we may actually watch them all.

4.0 out of 5 stars dabbler 8 Jun 2010
i have only looked at 2/3 discs so far and have enjoyed & also have learnt a few things already. I am now putting to good use an ancient 'master blaster' (hairdryer) which was about to hit the bin. the monochrome painting has turned out fab! i look forward to having a go at the disc about boats. i was going to buy another well known artists box set and after reading reviews was convinced to go the 'Clarke' route - thanks for the good steer.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have for those beginning and improving. 22 July 2011

A superb box set of Frank Clarks' earlier videos all in one compact box. An incredible total of 17 hours of videos covering 40 paintings! Phenomenal value at any price.

A must for all would be painters and even those who want to improve. Franks claim that everyone can paint seems to be proved when they say 'I can do that'.
He has an easy style that draws you to and along with him and you will soon be putting your own brush to paper.

Each video has four projects. Each project leads you step by step through blank paper to finished picture.
Frank has kept his materials down to a minimum so that starting need not cost a great amount. With just three brushes and 8 tubes of paint he shows you how to paint pictures worthy of framing and that you can be proud off.

I have watched most of the videos in the past and they are all on a consistent good quality and Franks easy manner gently encourages the viewer.
This box set lets me keep all of Frank Clarks' earlier videos all in one compact box which saves me space in my collection.

4.0 out of 5 stars Watercolour painting course 7 Feb 2012
Not delved into it too much yet, but it soon became obvious that the brushes Frank uses in this course are a must - I tried substituting but didn't work for me. Frank's method of teaching is personable and makes you want to have a go. Good value for money even including the extra cost of the brushes!

Is technique makes painting interesting and appealing, especially to the beginner! Well worth pursuing Frank's painting technique as I found it to be relaxing and very enjoyable.
