2.0 out of 5 stars Great fun, but not durable 4 Jun 2011
This machine is absolutely beautiful, and in the brief honeymoon period while everythign worked it was such fun to use. This lasted the first few months - six? - and the coffee was first class. But everything started going wrong, and then the machine fell apart.

First the steam wand stopped working, then the pressure gauge stopped working, and then the coffee taste began to go downhill. The machine uses old-fashioned tech with moving parts (a plus, I thought), but the pump just got tired, and more tired, and suddenly just before its third birthday it stopped being able to pump completely. Now it is sitting on the kitchen floor reproachfully while we feel too sad to take it down to the dump.

There's no customer service outside Italy, and getting it repaired just wasn't realistic. Posting a (I'm guessing as I haven't weighed it) 5/6 kilo machine to Italy? Really not on.

Even though it is so beautiful, I regret buying htis. It isn't built to last.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just what the kitchen needed! 26 Aug 2009

I've wanted one of these for a long time, and struck lucky with a long service award at work. This is a fabulous piece of quality kit, it looks fantastic and it produces a top quality coffee. Like anything Italian, it can be tempermental and demands respect, but following a few days to perfect my technique and I'm absolutely hooked. A tad expensive, perhaps, but quality generally is.

1.0 out of 5 stars Flawed Francis Francis 30 Sep 2008
    By D. Warr
I was so looking forward to receiving this Francis Francis machine. I had done my research, read the reviews and decided I would splash out and treat myself to a classic coffee machine - with the looks and at the price surely the quality to keep me in coffee heaven for years to come. Made by the the same people who make my favourite brand Illy what could go wrong?

Well for starters - whilst it looks great, it's not very practcal. As another reviewer pointed out, you can not anything much bigger than an egg cup under the brewhead, the milk frother is too short, and the water reservoir is too small, and when you need to fill it, the silly pipe they use to draw the water off dribbles all over the side. Infact everytime I touched the machine a little puddle of water / milk / coffee seemed to need to be wiped up.

All this may be accceptable to some, after all it does look great, however the machine I recieved leaked rather badly between the brewhead and the coffee holder - resulting in gritty horible coffee. Its gone back and Ive bought a Siemans machine - that doesn't look as good but makes great coffee everytime.
