Product Description

Product Description

France is a perennial favorite and the press has a love affair with the city. In 1997, 2.8 million Americans visited France, an 7% increase over 1996.

Millennium celebrations are planned all over the country. The largest will the 1,000 kilometer picnic along the Paris Meridian line on Bastille Day 2000. Millions will celebrate along the line, which will be planted with trees and colorful millennium flowers.

This newly revised edition features several new thematic itineraries: For example, a "France for Families" tour offers ideas for traveling with kids in France. In addition, there is expanded coverage of the Midi-Pyrenees region, which is attracting a growing number of visitors for its vineyards, beaches, medieval castles, Fodor remains, roman ruins, hiking, !i, and more.

This beautiful and practical introductory section takes readers on a virtual tour of France, showcasing what's where and the must sees and dos, while highlighting the incredible diversity of the destination. Cross-referenced to the main text, it's both inspirational and useful for planning. Two of the Gold Guide's top features, Great Itineraries and Fodor's Choice, stand out in full color.

The edition features a distinctive new gold cover with a hard-hitting subtitle that effectively sells the guide's unique features, plus a bold new spine that highlights the Rand McNally map inside, and lively backcover copy that creates excitement about the destination and establishes Fodor's as the brand leader.

In depth coverage, but not for the super-budget traveler 26 Mar 2000
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Unlike Fodor's Europe 2000, the France guide covers all areas of France (and not just Paris) in good depth telling you things to do and see, extensive listings of hotels and food places. The only problem with the book is that if you're traveling on a really tight budget (i.e. a student budget) the inexpensive listings aren't as inexpensive as can be found elsewhere. There aren't terribly many listings listed, and if you're a student (or someone with a studen's budget) try Lonely Planet or Let's Go instead.
