5.0 out of 5 stars Superb 13 Dec 2009
Format:DVD
If you like Metallica as much as I do, please make yourself a favour and buy this DVD. You will find a great setlist which is composed of lots of old songs as well as new ones. The performance of the band is outstanding as usual. My favourite songs on this DVD are Dyers Eve, One and Fade to Black.
I was also impressed by the quality of the video and sound and I have to admit that the French fans are awesome :)

So, no matter whether you're an old Metallica fan or a new one, do order this DVD without hesitations as it's worth every penny.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant 17 Dec 2009
By Smatch VINE VOICE
Format:DVD
At last a properly filmed, official Metallica live dvd is out! Although it is intended for the French audience, you choose a language to view the interview in and nothing else is affected.

Everything about this performance is simply awesome. James's voice is the best it has been since the S&M concert, retaining all the power it had in the early days. This is one of the reasons the DVD is so great. Lars is using his double bass pedal to a brilliant effect, this gives you one of the best live versions of 'Fuel' and 'Master of Puppets' - actually it gives every song a new dimension (especially 'Harvester of Sorrow'), his fills also seem slicker and more complex. Rob is perfect as ever and Kirk is brilliant with perfect lead work, and does a good little solo midway through, his backup vocals on 'Harvester of Sorrow' are also perfect.

The setlist is a great one, with every song performed to awesome standard, but you do notice the absense of songs like 'Battery' and 'For Whom the Bell Tolls'. 'Orion' would have been awesome but this doesn't knock any points off of it for me.

The thing that finishes everything off is the arena in Nimes - awesome, a full length, uninterrupted Metallica concert. This definately ties as the best I own along with Cunning Stunts

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW 30 Dec 2009
By T. Cox
Format:DVD
I'm currently watching this for the first time but I felt compelled to come on here during Master of Puppets and well, say that this dvd is absolutely incredible!!

All Nightmare Long is my highlight so far but my god, the sound is fantastic, James is sounding on top form and everything about this (except the exclusion of Battery) is spot on.

You must buy this if you're a fan of metal music or just guitar-centric bands in general. One of the best music dvd's you will ever own.

4.0 out of 5 stars Superb concert film 17 Dec 2009
Format:Blu-ray
Finally received this disk from Universal after a month-long delay and am pleased to report it was worth the wait.

Metallica have a genuine claim to being one of the best live bands in the world at the moment and this disc captures them in fine form. The song selection is great, a lovely mix of old classics (Sandman, Master and Creeping Death), new material (All Nightmare Long, Broken Beat and Scared and Cyanide) and some real rare tracks to boot (Dyers Eve anyone?). Video and audio quality are as good as you'd expect from Blu-Ray, a format that seems custom built for this sort of performance with the mix managing to avoid heading into overhelming bass territory like so many Hi-Def concert films do. There's a couple of nice extras but really it's all about the show and, in the Nimes Arena, you have a very different setting from a typical arena show that adds a little something extra to the lovely visuals. Detail is superb and there's a constant string of surprises as you're watching. Top notch all round.

So why only 4 stars? Couple of reasons actually. First, there's a camera on tracks at the front of the stage that isn't shock-proof so every time you have a picture from it the focus wobbles with the bass beat. This is ever so slightly annoying as it gets in the way of some of the best shots. Next the mix itself is very band-focused, it would have been nice to have a little more ambient noise from the crowd to draw you into the event. Most importantly though this isn't the best show in the World Magentic Tour. The stage set is significantly cut down from the usual in-the-round setup and as a result you're missing a lot of the better effects. No lasers, no flying coffin rigs, no colour-changing flames between the amp stacks... you get the idea.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Concert!! 23 Dec 2009
By sCrEaM
Format:Blu-ray
Perfect concert, perfect playlist!

The BluRay is very good! But, i don't know... is it my player or the BluRay: The Audio is not 100% synch to the movie. Can other buyers confirm this?! Just look at Lars on the drums... It's only millisecond or something like this...

5.0 out of 5 stars Yes there are sync problems 6 April 2010
Format:Blu-ray
I got this direct from Universal, and there are definately sync issues.I'm a member of METPAGE and lots of members have reported the same, with many different standalone players. My player is Panasonic BD35.
Awesome gig from the worlds greatest rock band, but let down by the sync issues.Dunno if it is a faulty batch or not,and i have over 50 blu ray movies, and NONE have sync issues,so i know it's not my player.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Metallica blu-ray! 16 Nov 2010
By Moxie
Format:Blu-ray
I bought this blu-ray of Metallica from the U.K. Amazon marketplace as it was cheaper than the U.S. version (since I live in the U.S.) and it is region free! This is a MUST for anyone that likes Metallica and hard, heavy, and fast metal. The picture and sound quality are top notch! I've read some reviews about "camera shake" that was annoying to the reviewers. It didn't distract me from the performance as it totally kicked butt! This blu-ray is much better than the import from Mexico as it doesn't have the concert broken up with interviews and clips from the band. This blu-ray is called "NIMES" and it is the BEST! A must have for any collector of fast heavy metal and rock-n-roll as myself. Amazon is the best and cheapest place to buy it so get it now before the price goes up! When it arrives, make sure you crank it up as the sound will blow your mind! The high end is crystal clear and the bass is awesome. You get a choice of 5.1 DTS Master Audio or Uncompressed PCM 2.0 Audio for people with Stereo (2 channels). I prefer the uncompressed PCM 2.0 audio as my system is only stereo. Either way click "ADD to Cart" now and you won't be disappointed!

This show provides excellent scenes due to the round shape of the stage in the middle of the crowd. Great performance by Metallica, playing Death Magnetic album.

Some shaking from one of the cameras, not what i expected from a professional camera crew. How they didn't "see" that in editing is beyond belief.

Product good. Initial details did not specify it had to come from USA and there would be a long delivery time. However, package arrived in good time and lived up to expectations.
