Product Description

Product Description

Framing roofs can be one of the most challenging jobs in carpentry because of the difficult angles and intersections involved. Master carpenters explain the techniques they use to lay out, design and build all kinds of residential roofs. This illustrated title is divided into 15 chapters and includes information on how to plan and build gable roofs, hip roofs, dormers and bay windows, and many other types of roofs. It also explains how to frame with trusses and how to handle tough situations, such as irregular hips and pitches.

Very informative 13 Jan 2006

I found this book very informative and will be sharing this book with my apprentices to teach them from basics to advanced roofing. Yes it is in imperial but if you look on the other half of your tape measure there it is. feet and inches. I think it's important for people to learn imperial as well as metric because not everybody uses metric. Ok most people do in England but you are bound to encounter it at some stage. Very good book

There is a school of thought especially among tradesmen that " it's my way or the highway ". This annoys me and what annoys me more is that two reviewers have given this book a one star rating because the measurements are imperial. If the whingers were really worth their salt the measurements wouldn't be an issue ! And now to the book.

I thought this to be a pretty good reference book and for apprentices this would be invaluable. The methods used are very well explained and clearly shown through high quality photographs and drawings. All the basics of roof work are covered from setting out roofs and cutting the rafters to the framing of eyebrow, bay and dormers. There's also a section on trusses which I found excellent. It's well worth a look if you find the basics of roof construction hard to grasp.

It would have received a higher grading if it would included info regarding markets that do not supply the facilities offered in usa
