Biography

Far and away the longest lasting and the most successful of the '70s progressive rock groups, Yes proved to be one of the lingering success stories from that musical genre. The band, founded in 1968, overcame a generational shift in its audience and the departure of its most visible members at key points in its history to reach the end of the century as the definitive progressive rock band. Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

With the 1972 release of Fragile, Yes established themselves as one of the most progressive rock bands on the scene. With the recent addition of towering, silver-caped Rick Wakeman on keyboards, they raised their innovative brand of music to even dizzier heights. "Roundabout", which is still a standard on classic rock playlists, is an unusual track, coming in under four minutes, while "Heart of the Sunrise"--with its varied constituents molded together perfectly--goes on for as long as it needs.--Paul Clark

I won't comment on the album - if you're a Yes fan all you need to know is "should I buy this". The answer is "Yes you should". The next question is "How soon can I have more of these please". I would REALLY love to have 90125 and the Yes Album in this format. I have two Queen audio DVDs and this Yes album. I have a good quality surround setup and as far as I'm concerned this is the most fun music listen I've heard in years. And the sound is just super crisp - this Yes album in particular is REALLY nicely done. Some nice artwork and features on the disc as well. I prefer the DTS surround version - the Dolby surround version is somehow more subtle but less lively. Plus you get 96Khz high resolution versions as well. Great value!

It's great when something or someone you've known for so long (in this case around 25 years) can still surprise you. Well hearing Fragile on the DVD-A format did just that, bringing a new depth and clarity to an already excellent recording.

The degree of presence provided by the higher resolution format brings the band into the room. The group pieces work best, with the title track and 'South Side of the Sky' serving as a showcase for the band's virtuosity and atmospheric vocal harmonies.

A must buy for any Yes fan. Can't wait for more Yes releases on the format.

Firstly This was the first Dvd audio title I've bought so the listening experence was new to me, the equipment which I played the album through was a set of good quailty digital speakers and the only computer sound card on the market namely the Audigy 2, with the Dvd audio player.

The sound quailty is quite amazing, at times it really is like having the band around your house the sound is as crisp and sharp and without doubt is much better than cd.,

As for the album itself there are times where the sound mix works and other tracks where it falls flat.

Starting with roundabout this sounds fresh and exiting in this format, the bass playing of mr Chris Squire is brought to you full in the face, the guitar sound is clear, the drum sound solid and the vocals of Jon Anderson soar and swirll all around you, meanwhile Rick Wakeman can be heared playing away more clearly then ever before.

Moving on to the tracks that don't work Cans and Brahms The fish and Five per cent of nothing , the sound is sent around each individual speakers during thesesongs and it just sounds awfull it has a bad gimick feel to it, We have Heaven and Mood for a day sound fine.

South side of the sky and long distance runaround are great songs and once more sound suberb in this format, but the standout track has to be Heart of the Sunrise the contrast between the band playing at breakneck speed and the peacfull moments is greatly exposed with Dvd Audio, When Chris squire is playing bass in the number it sounds as if he is right next to you with his practice amp.

Each instrument can be heared clearly it does sound like a new album from Yes even though Fragile is over 30 years old.

Still great after all these years...
Still as impressive an example of top quality prog rock as you'll find. Saw the current version of Yes just recently in Sydney and whilst they were good, they pale a little when... Read more

Brilliant
One of the great albums of the 1970s. Fragile sounds as good now as when I first heard it. This was the all new, supergroup Yes with secret weapon Wakeman blowing every other band... Read more

The golden age of Yes
With 'Close to the Edge' and 'Relayer', 'Fragile' belongs to the golden age of YES, althought the newest album of the band, 'Fly from Here' is a reminiscence of these ages.

A Band - Greater than the Sum of its Part
Fragile goes classical. The previous Yes Album brought about a more tightened structure to Yes' work. Here we have its musical identity in formation. Read more

Essential "YES"
The "Yes - Fragile" album is such a classic! After the huge success of "The Yes Album", five musicians (Anderson, Bruford, Howe, Squire, and Wakeman) made history. Read more

A five star hands down
This is the perfect example of an album with enough tracks where the surround engineer must have been having a field day. Read more

Embryonic Yes
The closest Yes came to a 'concept album', 'Fragile' is composed of nine 'pieces', four full-blooded 'Group' tracks, and five individual pieces, one for each member of the group. Read more

Wakeman is fantastic but lacking in depth
The first thing to be mentioned about this album is the cover, the very first Roger Dean picture to be featured on a Yes album and the first time that the now famous logo was used. Read more
