Product Description

The clash of ancient rules and modern expectations swirl together in this cool, urban 21st century faery tale.

Rule #3: Don’t stare at invisible faeries.

Aislinn has always seen faeries. Powerful and dangerous, they walk hidden in the mortal world, and would blind her if they knew of her Sight.

Rule #2: Don’t speak to invisible faeries.

Now faeries are stalking her. One of them, Keenan, who is equal parts terrifying and alluring, is trying to talk to her, asking questions Aislinn is afraid to answer.

Rule #1: Don’t ever attract their attention.

But it’s too late. Keenan is the Summer King and has sought his queen for nine centuries. Without her, summer itself will perish. He is determined that Aislinn will become the Summer Queen at any cost…

Suddenly none of the rules that have kept Aislinn safe are working any more, and everything is on the line: her freedom; her best friend, Seth; her life; everything.

When last we saw Aislinn, she had become the embodiment of Summer, and taken her rightful place as Summer Queen.

Aislinn has had to adapt quickly to her new faery abilities, and it is certainly not easy. She struggles with her feelings towards Keenan, her Summer King, and her mortal boyfriend, Seth. She loves Seth, but is drawn to Keenan in a way that is inexplicable.

Aislinn searches for a happy balance, but it eludes her.

Keenan is also facing troubles of his own. Donia, the new Winter Queen, is his heart's desire, but she cannot bear sharing him with Aislinn. They also face a physical barrier that could destroy them both.

Aislinn, Keenan, and Donia continue their search for middle ground, but it all comes crashing down when Seth disappears. Aislinn becomes lost and wonders if joining the Faery Court was the right decision.

Melissa Marr's sequel to WICKED LOVELY is wonderful. She delves more deeply into the story of the Dark and High Courts, and gives a larger presence to Seth, Aislinn's mortal, and Sorcha, queen of the High Court.

Fans of both WICKED LOVELY and INK EXCHANGE will not be disappointed. I am looking forward to further installments in this amazing series!

Unputdownable! 19 Oct 2009

This book has to be the best one so far and I sat and read it in 2 hours flat.

Aislinn and Keenan although Summer King and Summer Queen, have still not consummated their relationship because of Aislinns love for Seth her mortal lover. This in turn has caused Donia, the Winter Queen, suffering because although she knows that Keenan loves her, he will never come to whilst there is a chance that Aislinn will falter and give in to him.

Meanwhile, in Faerie, the true heart of all the Courts, whether the Seelie or the Unseelie Courts, Sorcha the true Queen is visited by her sister Bananach who is the embodiment of cruelty and war and constantly machinates on how to bring about destruction and devastation to both the Sidhe and mortals alike. Sidhe if you didn't know is the correct term for Faery. It is an old Celtic word pronounced as 'Shee'. Sorcha is her polar opposite and likes nothing more than for order to reign within her Court and also outside of it.

Seth is becoming more and more dissatisfied with the way that Keenan is toying with Aislinn and decides maybe rashly to do something about it. He approaches Niall, the now King of the Dark Court and asks him to 'curse' him but Niall refuses. Bananach being also of Niall's court hears of this and thinking that it will cause chaos and then outright war, takes things into her own hands and leads Seth to Faerie and to Sorcha. He disappears for nearly 6 months (only a month in Faerie) having been 'cursed' by Sorcha. I don't want to put a spoiler in here but this curse is not the kind of curse you may think it would be not to Seth anyway.

He eventually returns to the Summer Court where Aislinn is alternately deliriously happy to see him but furious that he went away without saying anything. She is even more cross when she discovers what he has done and that Keenan, Donia and Niall all knew but didn't tell her. This of course is Bananachs doing as she would have all out war between all of the courts.

The ending of the book is truly brilliant and Seth has changed in more ways than one!

Very cleverly written with superbly rounded characters and also the way that the author has woven this story is in essence, part Sidhe itself. I can't wait for the next book.

FRAGILE ETERNITY follows WICKED LOVELY and INK EXCHANGE. Although it is Marr's third book, it is a direct sequel to WICKED LOVELY, following Aislinn, Keenan and Seth once more.
In WICKED LOVELY, we saw Aislinn take her place as The Summer Queen to Keenan. Although she agreed to stand by him in court, she only agreed to do so if he would allow her to remain the girlfriend of Seth, a human who should have no part in the world of the fey. Reluctantly, Keenan agreed. FRAGILE ETERNITY shows what unfolds as they all try to live with the consequences of this.
For Aislinn, life is a constant struggle as she tries to perform her duties as the Summer Queen whilst remaining in a relationship with Seth. Although she loves Seth deeply, she is attracted to Keenan - he is her King; their complete union would strenthen their court.
For Keenan, life is also a struggle. He has his Queen, but she is not completely his. And he has a love of his own...
Finally, for Seth, life is unbearable. To watch Aislinn fulfill her role as a faerie alongside another man is torture. Both know that they only have a short time together because of Seth's mortality. And once Seth is gone, Keenan would step into his place. It is because of this that Seth decides to do something about it. If he can find a way of becoming immortal, he could face eternity with Aislinn. But, if he gets his heart's desire of eternity, what other consequences would this bring...?

FRAGILE ETERNITY is fantastic. The fragile balance between these three charcters and the faeries that surround them is expertly portrayed by Marr. Her fey world has been brilliantly imagined - each court is distinguishable and believable.
As I hoped, the ending of the book suggests that there is to be another in the series; the action and tension is building up as the three main characters face upto Aislinn's decision of ruling but keeping a human consort.
I love this series - cannot wait for the next book to follow them in their pursuit of a happy eternity.
