Although a little slow at the start it gathered momentum and I found it hard to put the book down. Excellent read

HASH(0x98806318) out of 5 stars ~~Operation Borderland~~ 24 Oct. 2014
By Chief, USN Ret...VT Town - Published on Amazon.com

This novella covers a lot of ground (plus air) and is full of action. From a military coup in California to a ranch in Nevada, Operation Borderland is on. DC is trying to get their heads on straight to reach a decisive conclusion on action to take in California. Sound familiar?

This story is well done and everything is tied up succinctly at the end. Gotta really like Sirena and her flying abilities (plus her kick a.. attitude).

Will read more of this author's books to see if some of these characters show up again. Also, really appreciated the humor that is interspersed throughout.

Highly recommended.
HASH(0x996a6084) out of 5 stars It could not only happen in America 14 Feb. 2013
By Dayle Smith - Published on Amazon.com

This short work from Trevor Scott tells the story of a California that a few people have decided does not need the rest of the American states. The plot is taut and the manner in which the heroine is caught up in the vortex of Californian military forces under orders to carry out this attempted coupe is well told and , for a non US reader, is told in a highly believable manner. The plot weaves the inevitably disparate elements in a quasi civil war in California that has the White House involved, but the Californians involved had foreseen some of the likely US government counterattacks and had moved to block them off.
The book does introduce the character of Sirena, who sees action in other books by Scott, but there is a clean break between them and they are unconnected. A quite riveting book that is a salutary one for countries made up of a federation of some kind, like both America and Australia.
HASH(0x996862c4) out of 5 stars Sirena is back! 26 Mar. 2015
By Roger D. Haneline - Published on Amazon.com

I was happy to see Sirena back, she could have a series of her own. She is on a par with Tony Contardo of the Jake Adams series---Tony has killed off unfortunately. While the story line was a little hard to believe, it is not impossible in this day and age. Will we see more Sirena and, perhaps, Rocky? Wouls like to know some more about his cloudy past.
HASH(0x9a13eb88) out of 5 stars fractured state 10 May 2014

I love this author, and I love his characters. The only reason for 4 not 5 stars is my problem, not the author's or the story, both of which are top notch. I'm just never satisfied with the novella format. Given that the main character appears in other novels of Scott's, I look forward to seeing her again in a longer story.

I wasn't familiar with Trevor Scott's writing until I received my Kindle. I since have acquired a number of his offerings and while Fracured State was a good read, it didn't quite, to me, reach the enjoyment of the Jake Adams or Hypershot series.
