Fourth Day 4 Aug 2010
Format:Hardcover
Fourth Day is the name of a once subversive organization formed in the 1960's and known for its cult-like origins, but claiming to work wonders especially with vulnerable adolescents [and others] with delinquency and drug addiction problems. It has more recently been headed by one Randall Bane, its new and charismatic leader suspected of having more sinister ambitions.

This newest in the series brings back Charlotte ("Charlie") Fox and her lover, Sean Meyer, a junior partner in Amstrong-Meyer, a "close-protection" [read "bodyguard"] organization, now tasked with retrieving a man who has been living within Fourth Day's grounds on its large real-estate holdings in Southern California. Their 'target,' Thomas Witney, had initially infiltrated the organization five years prior to get proof that Fourth Day was responsible for the death of his son, but for some reason never left. There is some question as to whether or not he will come willingly, but they are told that that is not to be an obstacle. When things go awry, Charlie volunteers to herself infiltrate the organization, with appropriate back-up. What she finds is unexpected, to Charlie and the reader.

This is a fast-paced and suspenseful novel, as Charlie, now 29 years old, is going through some difficult times, personally and professionally. She is nonetheless at the top of her game, and that is very good indeed. The plot races through to a stunning conclusion, which left me more anxious than ever to read the next installment in the series. Highly recommended. [The title, btw, is a Biblical reference - Genesis to be precise - as well as having a double meaning in the final pages.]

Tough and raw 6 Nov 2010
By Roman Clodia TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
Charlie, never Charlotte, Fox is ex-British Army, ex-Special Forces trainee and now in private security. When she is called in to bring a man out of a California cult she has no idea how her own vulnerabilities will be exposed.

This is the first of the Charlie Fox series that I have read and I have to say I'm hooked. Sharp writes tough and brutal stories with the kind of weaponry and action that is more usual in male-authored books but combines them with a female heroine who is as tough as her male counterparts. Intelligent, self-aware and more than a little emotionally vulnerable, Charlie battles her conscience and moral sense as much as her enemies.

What really lifted this book for me is the emotionally-fraught relationship between Charlie and her boss and lover Sean Meyer, a man as scarred, both mentally and physically, as Charlie.

I'm surprised that Sharp's series isn't better known, and am off to read the earlier books immediately.

Fourth Day 19 Feb 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
After reading 'Third Strike' back to 'Killer Instinct' in no particular order, I thoroughly enjoyed them and found it easy to fill in the gaps caused by the wrong order. Unfortunately, it left me wanting more and more but luckily I didn't have too long to wait for 'Fourth Day' to be released.

Cults have always been a cause of fascination and normally are publicised for the negative effect on their followers. This proved an interesting book and again, led to a loss of sleep mainly due to the fact that I couldn't put it down at night. Whether the cult involves a positive or negative effect...? Now that would give away too much. A shocking ending that was unexpected but leaves the reader waiting impatiently for the next book. Again, action packed with Charlie packing a punch or two or three...! Fantastic - what more can you ask for?
