"I see a lot of potential in your work. You have a taste for storytelling - a love of it. That's something that can't be taught or learned, and it's an essential part of being a writer."
--Romantic Novelists' Association (added by author)

A hilarious romance! The storyline was entertaining and funny; the characters were unique, colorful, and relatable. I had a hard time putting this one down because I never knew what funny catastrophe or line would come next.

Product Description

Fourteen Days Later was short listed for the Harry Bowling Prize 2008 and received a Highly Commended by the Yeovil Literary Prize 2009. It is a romantic comedy with a unique infusion of British and Turkish Cypriot culture. Written in a similar style to Marian Keyes, it is My Big Fat Greek Wedding meets Bridget Jones.

When accident-prone Helen Grey finds a thong stuffed into the pocket of her boyfriend's best work trousers, it's time for her to move on. His excuse that he needed to dust the photocopier and just thought that it was a rag sounds like a lame excuse.

Helen's life is propelled in an unexpected direction after her best friend, Ayshe, sets her a fourteen-day, life-changing challenge. Helen receives a task everyday which she must complete without question. The tasks are designed to build her confidence and boost her self-esteem but all they seem to do is push her closer to Ayshe's brother, Kalem.

How will Kalem and Helen get together when she's too foolish to realize that she loves him? How can he fall for her when he is too busy falling prey to her mishaps and too in love with his own perfect girlfriend? How will Kalem's Turkish Cypriot family react when they find out?

Is it really possible to change your life in fourteen days?

Helen has been looking for Mr Right in all the wrong places. When her long-term boyfriend cheats on her, she embarks on a life-changing challenge with a little help from her best friend. She's always thought that the perfect man comes in a perfect package, so when she starts falling for her best friend's brother, she's surprised to say the least, because he's not the usual type she goes for. Two things stand in her way, though. She can't risk her long-standing friendship with her best friend, and he already has a stunning girlfriend that she can't compete with.

As Helen tries out all sorts of new experiences - speed-dating, a Hen night with Hell's Angels, an art class - she learns a lot about herself. She's a shopaholic who just wants a perfect family of her own. Slowly, she realizes that she has to take charge of her own life, culminating in the final few challenges to try and get her man.

This is a really funny romcom. I could easily relate to Helen, and she gets up to all sorts of funny antics along her journey. I was laughing out loud throughout most of the book. Good escapism chicklit.

This is not my usual genre - but I have to say that I loved it!

It's been ages since I read a romantic comedy and I was looking forward to reading Sibel Hodge's Fourteen Days Later. I was not disappointed.

The author begins the book with some very funny moments; a heroine (Helen) who is a prime candidate for falling foul of almost everything that is put in her path, a well-meaning friend who sets her up with fourteen days for changing her life after Helen's catches her boyfriend cheating and a handsome, limpid-eyed hero whom I fell in love with!

Very light-hearted, some hilarious moments with some excellent characters that fit the bill exactly.
This is a very entertaining read and I have to say I really enjoyed my read of it.

Well done, Sibel I most definitely will be buying the sequel.

I read Fourteen Days Later on a plane to Orlando. There's nothing like being stuck in a flying can to concentrate your mind on a good book. It made the flight fly by :)
I was really taken in by Helen's character and was willing her to have a happy ending. In this type of book you can guess the ending practically from the start, but it's all about the journey. And what a journey it was too.
I think this book was more interesting with the different nationalities / customs. I'm so used to "white" characters that I rarely come across and appreciate the differences in customs that can cause hilarious misunderstandings.

Very disappointing
This book simply wasn't believable. No way should it be compared to Bridget Jones. The characters and dialogue did not convince.
