Inside This Book (Learn More)
First Sentence
When Thelma and Louise was first released in the spring of 1991, I was conducting a screenwriting workshop for Austrian filmmakers in Vienna, a city of great beauty and culture, the home of Mozart, Beethoven, Goethe, Schiller, Strauss, Mahler, and Freud, to name just a few, and more recently, the homeland of Billy Wilder and Arnold Schwarzenegger. Read the first page

The book is well written and if you're a fan of the movies discussed then it's very entertaining as there are a lot of anecdotes and in depth interviews with the writer/directors. I wouldn't really call what Field does with these films an analysis though. They're more like entertaining essays from a well informed fan.

I was expecting an act by act, character arc breakdown in digestible bullet points and while these are mentioned it is in a much more conversational rather than educational tone.

An entertaining read.

Syd field gives a very in depth look into what a screenplay is. He has such knowledge and he makes me look at scripts more. The script is more than just what we see on screen.

Good but... 21 Aug 2001
Format:Paperback
...it's quite confuse for me. Lots interviews; what's scripts look like and example (Thelma & Louise; Terminator 2; The Silence of the Lambs; Dances with Wolves) If you look for become screenwriter, step-to-step or sell your screenplay - this book is not for you. Yes, this book confuse me but a bit understood what Sdy Field's interviews about. Argh.
