Product Description

Product Description

Ed and Lester were childhood friends, as close as brothers, until they begun secondary school. Lester has always been quiet, sensitive and intense - girls and boys alike laugh at him. Ed just wants to fit in. He feels guilty about Lester, but he is becoming a drag and when Ed puts pressure on him to complete a dangerous macho initiation test into a hard boy gang, something snaps. The boys fall out big time.

When Lester becomes the target for 'hard kid' Stuart Doyle, Ed gets involved. Now Doyle wants a showdown with Ed on Friday - four days away. Doyle is a a vicious thug, and Ed is scared out of his mind. But waiting for Friday to come gives Ed time to face up to the past; the betrayal of his best friend, and the truth about Lester's sexuality. Hard-hitting issues and page-turning drama makes this a gripping and thought-provoking read for both sexes!

5.0 out of 5 stars Multi layered. A moving, interesting read., 24 Jan 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Four Days Till Friday (Bite) (Paperback)
Another one of those books you read in one sitting. The element of suspense worked well for me, and I didn't really spot what was coming at the end.

There are several issues in this book - the main ones being bullying and, to a certain extent, homosexuality. Both are dealt with in quite a realistic way; there is no moralising or stereotyping and I think that is what gives this book extra strength. The book takes a look at the effects of fear, self discovery, and bullying on different personalities. It is clear, however, what point you are meant to take away.

I found the end very moving - I won't say any more than that on the storyline. I will just say that happy endings are nice sometimes...

As a librarian, I would recommend this book to a wide range of teenagers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bully da Bully, 6 Feb 2005
This review is from: Four Days Till Friday (Bite) (Paperback)
Well i must say after reading that book i have become a proud man or must i say man....watever. It is true. it shows the life of a bullied kid...eventhough its only for 4 days, but heck who cares. I must say that the author did a fabulous job with bringing the bully to life...making it a real life situation. Furthermore i must say that she ended it well...killing lester just showed how much he was hurt...even though he was using astral projection...but yes she decided not to end it like all storiies but in a sad way, which doesnt make much of a difference. I though the best part of it was her idead (peeing, bitch...etc) and she also used word that would have been spoken in real life. So now you can see. Anyway....hope she writes more of hese types of books and send free copies to Jerudong International School in Brunei, North of Borneo, South East Asia..........
