Product Description

Review

'It is so refreshing to read a book about primary teaching that takes the child, and learning and teaching as its focal points. So often books in this area are so impersonal with their focus on subjects and raising standards.' - Paul Lunn, Northumbria University, UK

Product Description

The need to achieve the latest QTS standards for teaching can often stifle innovation and reflective thinking. Written specifically to help guide student teachers through their training, this book provides a comprehensive introduction to all aspects of teaching within the primary school. It helps student teachers to achieve both the requirements for Qualified Teacher Status, and also a fuller understanding and appreciation of teaching as an evolving and reflective profession through an emphasis on:

  • effective relationships and motivation as essential factors in learning
  • developing timeless and transferable teaching skills
  • reactivating thinking skills
  • promoting creativity and innovation within the classroom.

With new material on inclusion, SEN, legal issues, ICT and teaching assistants, this new edition remains essential reading for all student teachers on initial teacher training courses at the primary level.

When beginning my teaching degree specialising in the Early Years I knew that I would need some good books to help me. It's now the end of my second year at university and Denis Hayes has been my saviour on many occasions.

This book tells you everything you need to know about how schools work; how to plan, prepare and assess lessons; what QTS means for you.

Honestly, i have quoted this book in 11 out of 14 assignments over the last two years.

A MUST HAVE for anyone in (or entering) teacher training.

If there is one book you need for your teaching degree then this is it! I definitely recommend buying this book, it has been my bible for the last four years. It is well written, clearly laid out and easy to read. It is comprehensive, informative, and very useful for putting the relevant information into practise in the classroom. It will cover everything you need from referencing acedemic assignments to real life tips for working in the classroom.

I wouldn't have done my training without this book.

I found this book extremely helpful, useful and it is very easy to understand. For any student teacher like myself this book is ideal and is my bible for my course, but I think this book is a necessity for anyone in the teaching profession. A very enjoyable read.
