I heard the author on the radio and he made me laugh aloud, but the book is even better, if hard to describe, being a mixture of supposed lessons in English given by an incompetent foreigner, interspersed with hilarious letters to, and from, famous people, some of which date back to the 1980s. Without doubt this is the funniest book I've read this year. It's absolutely packed with hilariously tortured language that somehow builds as you read and is so funny that you find yourself gasping for air. The character of the author, Thomas Santos, sort of grows on you as you go along, and what a funny and touching character he is - vulnerable but sharp at the same time. I kind of fell in love with him, even as I laughed. An original comic creation and a complete delight. As you'll guess, I am a big fan.
