Review

Tomas Santos has a way with words that's unique and hilarious. I wish he'd taught me English --Gyles Brandreth

Product Description

'Found in Translation' is an English-language guide with a difference. Compiled by Tomas Santos - a well-meaning but incompetent foreigner of indeterminate nationality - it contains a wealth of priceless miscommunications on a variety of handy themes, from hotels, restaurants, shopping, travel, and health, to quintessentially English topics such as the Queen and village cricket.. . 'Found in Translation' is an innovative, eccentric and charming 'guide' to the English language that is guaranteed to have any English speaker crying with laughter.

By Laverne
Format:Hardcover
I heard the author on the radio and he made me laugh aloud, but the book is even better, if hard to describe, being a mixture of supposed lessons in English given by an incompetent foreigner, interspersed with hilarious letters to, and from, famous people, some of which date back to the 1980s. Without doubt this is the funniest book I've read this year. It's absolutely packed with hilariously tortured language that somehow builds as you read and is so funny that you find yourself gasping for air. The character of the author, Thomas Santos, sort of grows on you as you go along, and what a funny and touching character he is - vulnerable but sharp at the same time. I kind of fell in love with him, even as I laughed. An original comic creation and a complete delight. As you'll guess, I am a big fan.

laugh out loud 23 Jan 2011
Format:Hardcover
Bought this as a present but had sneak preview and couldn't put down. Having read 'Lost in translation' thought it would be difficult to match in terms of humour. This book is equally, if not more, funny. Will borrow so I can finish reading!
