I didn't want this story to end, and fell asleep on my Kindle two nights in a row whilst reading it as it was so very well written. I got into the characters very easily and enjoyed the conversational exchanges that were spot-on. Another reviewer indicated 'too much foul language' and I think it fairer to say that there was certainly 'strong' language which, within context was perfectly acceptable and believable because in my humble opinion, the language suited the characters (one of them an ex-con) and their personas within the storyline.
It was definitely a fun read with interesting twists and an unforeseen ending. I was led to believe Artie and his wife had an ideal marriage until they found the money, then the truth came out and I couldn't have predicted the path each would be forced to take when they discovered where the money had originated from, and that someone else laid claim to it and was determined to get it back. And it was brilliant that the author developed a background to each character so well that you started to warm to those that didn't originally appeal.
There were some funny scenes throughout as well. It made the story that little bit more heart-warming, which is something you don't expect for such a gritty tale. I have to say I had a bit of a heavy heart as the story wound down; I was enjoying it too much and was sorry when it ended.
It sped off at a moderate speed, accelerated, went into a spin and then arrived smoothly to a stop at the end. I thought it was an ingenious yarn, and applaud the author Charlie Carillo. And of course I'm chuffed to bits that he has other work out there. To sum up. this tale was thoroughly entertaining, and is well deserving of the five star rating.
