I read this in one sitting on a long train journey and the hours passed really quickly. It describes many a boy's fantasy- getting to accompany the England Football team to a World Cup Qualifying match in Russia. Tom Palmer skillfully avoids describing the team or the match in detail which would tie it to a particular time. Instead the energy of the book lies with its central character Danny, who is following and trying to prevent the match-fixing scam taking place before the game.
You get a real sense of Moscow and one of the most exciting scenes takes place in a country estate belonging to a very believable Abramovich- type character.I really worried about Danny and whether he was going to get home safely after this trip or not.Danny lives very dangerously in a world which is at once fantastic, yet totally believable. It should particularly suit football-loving boys aged 10yrs+ but I can't really imagine anyone who wouldn't enjoy it.
