Product Description

Lens hoods are primarily designed to prevent unwanted stray light from entering the lens by extending and shading the end of the lens. In addition, since the end of the lens is extended, you also get the added benefit of some extra protection from accidental impact. Dedicated lens hoods are designed to match the specific focal length of the lens it was designed for.

The lens hood does exactly what it says. Does the job, keeps out stray light and protects the gent end of the lens.

Great Purchase, Order Now and Save Some Money 3 April 2010
By Z. Saile - Published on Amazon.com

So I picked up the 50mm f/1.4 and really wanted a lens hood for it, so on to Amazon I went. I have to say I wasn't expecting such a hefty price tag for a piece of plastic, and that's when I came across this wonderful product. With the reviews right down the middle I decided to give it a shot, and what I found was complete happiness. I love this lens hood, I loved the price, and I loved the shipping time. I don't review my products often on Amazon, but this needs my review. If you're looking for a good lens hood, but don't want shell out all of your money then this is the one for you. It fits perfectly on my lens, and there are no little specks on the inside.

In short, it's cheap, but performs exactly like the Canon brand, the only difference I've seen (my buddy has the Canon) is that the inside is plain plastic, not felt, but that doesn't bother anything one bit. In fact, I am so happy with this lens hood and this company I recently bought a lens hood for my 28-135 lens, onward fotodiox, you shall see me soon.

As good as Canon's without the felt lining... 14 April 2010

The title of this review says it all. I have 3 other Canon lenses with OEM hoods (2 of which are L series) and this hood appears to be equal in quality of plastic, fit and finish. The only difference is it's lacking the interior felt lining. And if anyone cares, it will screw on backwards-though you wont have access to the manual focus ring...

Pleasantly surprised and would recommend! 18 Mar 2010
By Pinoy in NJ - Published on Amazon.com
I was a little wary because of the other review but decided to get one since it was more financially feasible compared to getting the original Canon lens hood. Besides, I got a lens hood for my 18-55mm from the same manufacturer and I'm happy with it.

So all my fears went away when I got my unit. I didn't notice the tiny specks inside of the hood. I would rub my fingers on it but did not get to produce the specks or get a residue. What I noticed is that it seems to very slightly attract dust particles (like a dust magnet) but you can easily remove it if you have a dust blower. The fit was perfect. The material is high grade plastic comparable to Canon's original lens hoods. Finally, it's a lot cheaper!! (see pics)
