Once you figure it out this camera is great! For me the best point being it's night vision, it's really really good. I've got this camera installed a good 100m away from the house down a remote driveway, in total darkness at night and it can still see everything. Very impressive.

I had several issues with the camera however.. the web interface is horrific, absolutely awful! I've got this working (finally) with iSpy for windows and that takes care of the motion detection and everything like that.

A massive problem area for me was the POE, this camera did not power up from my Cisco 3550L PWR switch and had to purchase a new netgear switch.. but it works great now.

A problem i'm yet to solve is the bracket this camera comes shipped with, its cheap flimsy metal that does not look like it will stand any weathering outside. However it looks to attach to the camera using a standard camera tripod mount, so hopefully an easy fix.

Overall this is a good camera with amazing night vision at a good price, i will be ordering a few more, but i would advise you to use iSpy for windows (its free) or ZoneMinder (on linux) to manage alerts / motion detection as the cameras factory interface is barely useable

This is one of the only exterior CCTV cameras in the world that will not work outdoors during the day (see [...] it would seam that the firmware the dsp uses reboots the camera if the image gets to complex (which translates to can see a tree in day light). This issue was picked up in Jun 2013 and they are still shipping broken cameras (Nov 13). If you RMA the camera, your just as likely to get a broken one. There is a fix if you don't mind taking the camera part, buying a special usb lead and re-flashing the dsp. In short stay away bad camera, bad support, just plain BAD.

Always like Foscam, until this camera 14 Jun. 2013

I have had this camera for a few months now and the camera keeps having the IR filter malfunction during the day so the image is neon green and pink. I would have to power off the camera by removing the POE Ethernet cable to fix it, but the filter was malfunction again after a day or so. I called support and they told me to put a magnet next to the camera to fix the issue. This camera is two stories up and I do no feel like getting up on the roof to stick a magnet on a new camera. They did everything but say that they will not replace the camera. Never buying a Foscam again, their service is awful.

These cameras are all defective from the factory - beware! 17 Sept. 2013
By Steve - Published on
I bought one of these in 2012, and it's been a great, high-quality camera. However, I then bought another this year and found out that Foscam has changed the internal components. They are using a different chip, which has a firmware problem.

When this camera is pointed at any bright, high-contrast scene, as happens throughout the day with an outdoor camera, the camera begins rebooting repeatedly and is inaccessible. Occasionally the image will come back but be pink and green as noted by another reviewer. Toning down the contrast allows the camera to "work" at the expense of the image quality.

Now, supposedly they've identified a fix, but all cameras currently being sold have this huge problem. Even cameras that people have sent in for warranty replacement have the exact same failure!

Buyer beware! Until (if) they fix these cameras, do not buy one of these. They are defective! There's currently a 30+ page thread on these cameras on the Foscam forums. (Note that the title says 8910, but the 8904 and 8905 - this camera - are discussed in the thread.)

Terrible image quality, no PoE injector. 15 Nov. 2013
By Brian Gray - Published on

Camera doesn't come with PoE injector. It comes with standard power adapter. Image quality is poor. Very low dynamic range, so in daylight, in a shot that has shadow and sunlight, the sunlight area is almost white wash and the shadow area is a little darker than it really is. If your area is all sun or all shadow, the image isn't too bad, it just can't handle a mix. My 2002 cell phone takes better pictures. The night vision is a joke. Sure, it reaches out 30-40 feet no problem, but at that distance, the camera doesn't have enough resolution to identify any tresspassers. If they get closer to the camera, they turn into casper because of the poor dynamic range. Even blue jeans turn completely white when within 10-15 feet. License plates reflect too much and get washed out no matter the distance. On the mechanicals, it isn't very well designed for outdoor use. The reset button, ethernet jack and dc power jack have no weather protection. I would not purchase this again.

On the fence about this one. 30 Mar. 2014

The camera is not bad for the price point. Picture quality is fair. The camera is of very sturdy construction. Being a photographer, I do question if the lens is really 4mm. My understanding of optics would tell me that a 4mm lens would have a much wider field of view. Im not sure if it is the lens or the size of the sensor that is effecting the effective field of view? I'm not saying the view angle is terrible, just not as wide as I thought it would be. I say the picture quality is fair because most times the color black will show up as purple. What I do not like is the mounts provided with the camera are poor quality. "My biggest issue with the cameras" You can not get them tight enough to hold the camera in position for long. They will need constant adjustment. The built in web server seems to work well and I like the DNS service that foscam provides. It seems to be pretty reliable. I have not contacted foscam for support so I can not address that. I bought my cameras through amazon but it was another vendor other then foscam. Based on what I have read I'm not sure they will support them because of that. I coupled the cameras with the the suggested blue iris software. For the 40 dollars its worth it. don't expect much in the way of documentation or support with the software. With that said it works for managing the cameras. Im sure it will do a lot more then I use it for. Would be nice to see some help other then forums and blogs. I have purchased a third F18905E. It is now on its way back to amazon. The POE circuit seemed to fail about 15 minutes after installation. Not sure if it is just a fluke, I am considering ordering a replacement.

It works OK and is about what I would expect for the money. 25 Nov. 2013
By Amber Bear - Published on
I have a dozen cameras from 5 different manufacturers or models. This is and inexpensive camera, so I was not expecting too much. It works as well as I would expect. I have it at my barn, I wanted to be able to tell if a mountain lion would be hanging around, it does that function quite well. However, if someone was stealing my horse, I might not be able to make out their facial features in detail, but I did not expect it to. Installation was simple (I use Blue Iris) and it has worked reliably for close to a year.
