I remembered singing "Forty Years On" as my school song - at an all-girls' school in the 1950s. It seemed to have verses and chorus more fit for players of rugby so I bought this book to see if I had remembered right. And yes, the chorus is "And the field rang again and again With the tramp of the 22 men". I learned that it was also the Harrow School Song. This collection of 150 songs - some written by eminent poets - was compiled by Gavin Ewart, and published in 1969. Very enjoyable.
