Lord Julian Horder can only be considered an acceptable suitor/husband to Miss Amanda once he finds his father's missing jewels. His half-sister Miss Samantha visits him and realizes the majority of his servants are gone in order to set up his London townhouse and he quickly needs a staff in order to prepare a dinner for his friends, Lord Chalford and Mr. Percy arriving within hours. She takes it upon herself to cook and serve the food. While serving them she hears Lord Chalford bet that if he wins the hand she will be his. Disgusted she leaves and realizes the next morning her brother was too drunk to understand the bet when Lord Chalford attempts to take her to his estate. Wanting to keep her identity a secret in order to protect her reputation she escapes from him. She travels to London since she will be sharing her first season with Miss Amanda(her cousin).
The missing jewels begin to appear and it seems Lord Chalford has a few of them and some pieces turn up at a jewerly shop. Was Chalford's father involved in killing Lord Horder's father for his valuable jewels?
It had potential to be a great book but I would have enjoyed a little more interaction with Samantha and Lord Chalford or at least be able to know his thoughts. I wouldn't have minded a stronger second romance between Julian and Amanda, especially since they desire to marry each other.
Clean romance and look forward to reading her other books.
