4.0 out of 5 stars special , 3 Mar 2008
By sean paul mccann "mccanns23" (ireland) - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)
protest the heros second album is a very technical album indeed, not quite mathcore as the structures arent as hard to figure out as some bands but there is a lot of guitar tweaking and pacey snapneck fidgeting all over the frets to make a sound that some will find overly invasive or not,my view is that at times its excessive and a little bit of showboating but the songs are what really matters and they do not play second fiddle to this technique.
This album contains tracks that build and twitch and then soar and are memorable as anything the band have ever done before, the songs dont sound stale in any way as they dont rest on a verse, chorus structure in truth, the album is filled with melodies in both the guitars and in the clean vocals which are more prominent than before, there are screams but they dont take a ruling stance at all, piano plays a part here in bringing rest to the edge driven character of the album and again that works very well, this wont suit all but there is a place in the market for protest the hero,of that im certain, they dont fit in comfortably with many other bands but thats never a bad thing in terms of creative flair but whether big time awaits remains to be seen, but this is a great album nonetheless.

4.0 out of 5 stars Technical metal how it should be done!, 21 Mar 2009
By M. Alford (UK) - See all my reviews

This is a great album. Protest made a concious decision to focus on more technically complex and original guitar work, and as such it can sometimes feel a bit overwhelming, but it certainly doesn't have time to get boring, considering there are so many different riffs per song. Perhaps it would have been nice to have a little more catchy song writing like that found it Kezia, but it's definately an important album for the progression of the band. Also, all the songs work amazingly live. If you have a chance, go see them live, it's amazing.

5.0 out of 5 stars What he said, 16 Feb 2008

Pretty much what "Filth Wizard" said. I love protest the hero since Kezia and been with em ever since. I was a little worried about this album because it sounded like they were trying some new stuff. They did a little, but it's still brilliant!! As good and maybe even better than their previous stuff

Buy it!
