Product Description

Product Description

Fort William and Glen Coe encompass one of the greatest areas of sea and mountain landscape in Scotland, backed by some of the biggest and most demanding peaks. This is Scotland's fjord land, a drowned coastland with long sea arms wending far inland, and the walks range from Fort William at sea level to Ben Nevis, the highest summit in Britain. The whole area is steeped in history, and its story is well told at local museums and information centres such as at Ballachulish, Kinlochleven and Glencoe, all areas explored in this guide.

4.0 out of 5 stars Path .... found, 15 Jun 2009
This review is from: Fort William & Glen Coe: Walks (Pathfinder Guide) (Paperback)
This guide series was new to me so I wondered how accurate the descriptions would be and how easy the directions would be to follow. I shouldn't have worried; the descriptions of the locations of the various walks in the Fort William area were superb and I had no trouble following the three different walks I followed. The maps were very clearly set out, though the guide could have started by suggesting it was aimed at walkers rather than casual wanderers; the "easy" walks would be challenging to someone who wasn't at least reasonably active. All in all I was very happy with the guide.

2.0 out of 5 stars Maps need work, 10 Aug 2009

Having bought this book after reading good reviews, I tried three of the walks. The descriptions of the walks are good but for two of the three walks the maps were inaccurate. For the "Hospital Lochan" (Walk 2), the highlighted line follows a stream rather than the path and the high point (B) is in the wrong place. For the "Pap of Glencoe" (Walk 15) the highlighted route is shown firstly up an impassible gorge and then the final scramble is marked up an impassible cliff. Either the author hasn't completed the walks or hasn't checked the maps. For me, the book was spoiled by the inaccuracies in mapping.

5.0 out of 5 stars well worth the money., 16 Mar 2008
This review is from: Fort William & Glen Coe: Walks (Pathfinder Guide) (Paperback)
i have quite a collection of these now. pathfinder guides have taken me all round lancashire (my home land..), Yorkshire dales/mores and most of wales!!! im of on my first ever break in Scotland soon, and im sure i have all i need in the one book. its more than a map as it points out many places of interest along the way that i have missed in the past following a standard OS map. new or second hand, the topography remains the same. so go and buy one now, where ever you might be going.
