5.0 out of 5 stars Sumptuous Gump!, 12 April 2007
By Alex Ryde (London, England) - See all my reviews
If you have seen the movie - read the book. You feel like you are meeting Forrest for the first time. The movie is so different from the book that it is practically a whole new life story, but with the same character we all know a love. The horizons are broader, although the world that Gump lives in is darker and he is more maligned than Tom Hanks' Forrest is. Still, when you read the book, you come to realise that there is a little Gump in all of us! Long Live Forrest Gump!

4.0 out of 5 stars The real Forest Gump emerges, 18 Nov 2008

I read the book because I thought the movie was kind of ok but I disagreed with the hidden messages within the film e.g. doesn't matter how much of an idiot you are you can still prosper in America blah blah blah. Forest Gump the film is based loosely on the book.

Well read the book and read the real story. Forest has his trials and tribulations and falls in love. It will make you laugh (and cry. You will find yourself reading with an Alabhama drawl and wonder when someone will make the real Forest Gump film. Well worth the read.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great deal of fun, 4 Dec 2007
By B. J. Madeley - See all my reviews

Winston Groom's book Forrest Gump is a thoroughly enjoyable read, as long as you don't take it seriously and just accept it as an imaginative, far fetched farse. Forrest is a simple man who gets into a great deal of unorthodox scrapes through no fault of his own, leading to much hilarity and embarresment.
I found this book a joy to read (once I got used to it being written phonetically in an Alabama accent, most unusual)and I would recommend it to anyone looking for some light hearted fun!

1.0 out of 5 stars For once, the movie is good and the book is a piece of trash

3.0 out of 5 stars Like a collection of short stories
This book is very witty. I saw the film before I read the book, and if the film had to contain everything that's in the book, it would have to be in two or three parts. Read more
