3.0 out of 5 stars Lots of action but sparse on facts, 15 Jan 2008
By George O'Donnell (Durham, United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
2007 was one of the most interesting Formula 1 seasons in recent times. The championship went down to the final laps of the final race where 3 drivers all had chances to win the title. It was a controversial season featuring the spying saga between McLaren and Ferrari, and a season that welcomed Lewis Hamilton into the sport and saw Kimi Räikkönen finally crowned World Champion. For this I think it is worth buying the DVD because 2007 was a season of highs and lows, and was a season to remember.

However the review is not the best review ever as it seems to deviate from the successful style used in past years. Again the producers feel the need to add unnecessary music tracks to the action at some of the races, and they tend to not inform the viewer of the timing of events. The season preview at the beginning is terrible as it doesn't describe the rule changes, it hardly makes reference to the post Schumacher era, and the review seems to be focused more on action rather than telling the facts or contextualising them. This is highlighted by qualifying being very poorly covered in a style similar to the review in 2006 with drivers talking over their qualifying laps at some of the grands prix - whilst this can be interesting, the viewer is not informed of how the other drivers performed in the qualifying sessions, which means at the start of races one has no idea of which positions the main drivers started from making the races confusing. Further to this there are very few interviews with the drivers before and after the races, the focus seems to be on playing a clip of the podium before moving onto the next race! The review DVDs seem to have become more emotive over the years, and this means that this DVD may not fully reflect the story of the season factually. Little reference is made to the spy saga and its huge ramifications, and the fact that if McLaren had not lost their points in the saga they would have won the constructors championship. No mention is made to the fact that effectively the title was finally given to Räikkönen at court in November weeks after the final race. I think too much time was spent on the first races, leaving the crucial final races of the season rushed. However the exclusive onboard footage is fantastic as some of it did not appear on TV. The special features are not outstanding; the highlights of these are the interview with Sebastian Vettel and Gerhard Berger and the interview with Lewis Hamilton which are both good.

Overall this DVD has many shortcomings but the 2007 season was a classic and this is the only DVD on the market to review the 2007 season. This makes it worthwhile to buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant, 13 Feb 2008

I think that this was actually a better review than some people are giving credit. this covers all the big issues of this year and gives you some information you may have missed first time round. the interview with mark webber and david coulthard was good.

4.0 out of 5 stars The never ending circus that is Formula One part 57, 3 Nov 2007
By russell clarke "stipesdoppleganger" (halifax, west yorks) - See all my reviews
(TOP 50 REVIEWER)
It went down to the final race and in-between there was more controversy than an "X Factor" episode and even though dour ( at least away from the track ) Fin Kimi Raikkonen eventually won it ,and probably deserved to because he has had some rotten luck throughout his Formula One career ,you just know this DVD is going to concentrate on one man -Lewis Hamilton.
Hamilton has been great for the sport , getting up Alonso's nose and causing much throwing of toys from prams , driving consistently and pulling off some audacious over taking manoeuvres but it must be said his Mclaren team let him down for the last two races .The tyre farce in Japan and the mysterious malfunctioning gearbox in Brazil not to mention the extraneous pit-stop even had discussions about conspiracy theories circulating throughout my house as it just seemed odd for the usually impeccable Mclaren team to cock things up so spectacularly .
Formula One of course has been constantly hitting the headlines for reasons other than 22 cars driving round a succession of tracks and that is covered in this DVD , though to no great depth . No surprise there and some will regret that the various shenanigans aren't given a more microscopic going over and there is undoubtedly more to come on that but an official F1 product is unlikely to be the source. Others will probably breathe a sigh of relief and be happy to concentrate on the racing.
The whole thing is covered chronologically to the final showdown on the 21st October in Brazil. The season started in Australia on March 18th when Hamilton finished third with Raikkonen winning easily and from on there are truly superb races -The Nurburgring in an astonishing downpour, and Canada with some awfully mundane ones-Hungary and Monaco and a lot of tactical strategic racing . The Ferrari's started strongly , lost impetus then finished impressively leading to them providing the championship winner . There is unseen footage and interviews ( Rather too many in truth, could have done with more action)
Formula One needed a shot in the arm and there is no doubt Lewis Hamilton has provided that .This DVD reflects that and probably lacks balance with not one dissenting voice ( They should have got Max Moseley in) Fair enough I suppose , I,m sure if Spain has a Formula One review DVD it won,t be quite as obsequious.
