Product Description

This book thrusts the reader into the cockpit of a Grand Prix car. The glamorous, rich and sexy world of motor sport is contrasted to the very real life of courage in the face of fear, split-second judgements, and self-denial that are the hallmarks of a great racing driver.

I first read this in 1990, when I was 17. I really enjoyed it then and picked up the first sequal "Indy" and lapped it up also. I then read Formula One again when I was 33 and while I still found it entertaining, I could see how it is rather unrealistic in places.

However, that doesn't stop it being a thumping good yarn, which shows Judd knows F1 in and out. Just don't take it too seriously. If you're in the mood for a thriller set in the world of international motor racing, then this is still a good read twenty years on.

The authors knowledge of what is a very complicated subject is outstanding. However this is more than a book just detailing cars flying round in circles. It has elements of a thriller, a romance and an action novel.

The pages just kept turning automatically. I look forward to reading this authors other creations

Enjoyable and realistic although a little slow in places. 16 Jan 1999
By David Lucas - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
First in a series of books based around Forrest Evers, a Formula 1 racing driver. He comes across well, and the reader quickly grows to like him and take his side when events go against him. One point about his character that strikes me as being a little fanciful is that all of the women in the book like him, even his soon to be ex-wife.

To the racing; Forrest is the main driver for Team Arundel, the last private team competing in the Championships, and someone wants them out of the competition, sabotaging cars and drivers in the process. As a F1 fan, I enjoyed the coverage of the racing, which had a realistic feeling to it, no doubt due to the authors experience in this arena.

The one downside that I have with this book is that there is a section in there that was a real struggle for me to get through. Without giving too much away, whilst they were in Mexico, although the action was going on, the authors coverage seemed to become a bit ponderous, which had a negative effect on me. Could have been a 4/5 otherwise, but I'd give it 3.5 if the CGI would let me. Apart from this small point, an enjoyable read and I will probably purchase more of his books in the future.
