A truly classic work covering the social history of the Post-war Polish migration. It seems ironic that in those days the Conservative politicians were the ones who felt very beholden to Polish people displaced by the war. It was the Labour party and the left wing unions who resisted the migration because of either misguided moral affiliation with the Communist regimes or to supposedly protect British jobs (oblivious to the shortage of workers). There were even 2 Communist MPs elected to the HOC. How times changed.
This is a great book and well worth reading.
Please note it is still available (new) from UCL SSEES publications unit at £13.75 (+p&p).
