I was so pleased to receive this book - it surpassed all my expectations. After looking everywhere for images of London from the 20s for my work, this is the most amazing find yet. Well-researched and beautifully presented, this deserves to stay in print forever. from the image-wrapepd cover to the gold textured fly leaf and dark gold page backgrounds, it feels like one is opening a treasure box, which in a way one is. Many of the photographs, given their great age and variety of photographic techniques and abilities involved, haven't fared well in their transfer to print. And the sepia tint rendering doesn't suit all the subjects or do justice to some photos that were meant to be glossy black and white. But that's just splitting hairs. Overall, a stunning book. Well worth collecting.

I got this book for my mum as a christmas present. And she was thrilled because it was a different aspect of London and it was all from 1920s. So i think this book is brilliant for people who enjoy old photographs or London in the old days

The 4 and 5-star reviews garnered by this book are understandable. It's a fairly substantial volume full of evocative, detailed images, accompanied by informative captions. Of-course, you always want to know more than is known about the photographs that interest you and, as another review mentions, maximising clarity of image has resulted in a sort of standarized sepia tone to them all, but there are some very atmospheric, vivid pictures which make this a good 'album' to have. I also appreciate the way that the authors draw out the sense of history in the photos (such as those of soon-to-be-demolished buildings and elderly street traders still dressed in the fashions of 30 years previously) highlighting that any era, while having a sheen of the modern, is also a sum of the past. I aim to peruse with older relatives to prompt some memories!

This was the perfect present for my father, who was born in London in the 1920s. His eyesight is not great so I had been looking for a 'grown-ups picture book' and this fitted the bill. As I am exploring my family history, this was an ideal tool to prompt some early memories from him. He was delighted to find so many meaningful pictures and having the book has resulted in some story telling by him about the time he was growing up. It's easy to forget how much has changed in the last 100 years but this book captures the way things were for all walks of life in a wonderful way.

A fabulous book which concentrates on the 20s and 30s which is more unusual as most look at earlier times.

Although this book shows photos of London before my time, nevertheless the main reason for purchasing it is because it shows old London, real London,my London.A London that has all but disappeared. What happy days they were, and what happy memorys this book revived in me.

A smashing book of photographs of past London. As a past Londoner myself, although not that far back, I just love collections such as this. You need not be a Londoner to appreciate this book. Well worth a visit.
