I loved How to be Lost and was not disappointed by this novel by the same author. The story is easy and I found I identified and sympathised (empathised) with the characters very quickly, in fact the only character I found difficult to understand was the main one, Nadine and possibly that was the strength of the narrative and characterisation. Two parrallel stories intertwine and this was done well, I found I was speeding up towards the end to find out what the conclusion would be, as it had to be dramatic. All in all one of my best reads this year.

I have just finished this book and love the uncluttered style of this writer. The way that the various strands of the story are woven together is never contrived and makes for a very satifying read. I would also thoroughly recommend Amanda Eyre Ward's other books Sleep Towards Heaven and How to be Lost.

The main reason I enoyed this book was the subject matter - South Africa. It was interesting to read a story set around the country and its history, as it is something I have never read about before.
I love novels that don't run chronologically, or simply about one character, and this novel covers two peoples lives and how they intertwine beautifully.
I wouldn't go as far as to say I was blown away by this book, but it is certainly a good read.

Emotional and Educational
I found this book very readable despite the fact that the material about South Africa is truly shocking. It is a page turner for sure and as each chapter ends you want to read on. Read more

Fascinating read, confusing ending.
