Amazon.co.uk Review

Breaking up is hard to do--but that doesn't mean you can't have some belly laughs about it. Forgetting Sarah Marshall provides that rare treat: a romantic comedy about breakups, that is both romantic and funny. The laughs, especially from writer-star Jason Segel, are both heartfelt and raunchy, and the film is just unexpected enough that it keeps the viewer's attention till the end. The touches of producer Judd Apatow, who's famously retooled rom-coms to appeal to guys as much as women, are woven throughout the film, but Segel's script, reportedly based on many of his own experiences, is fresh and original. And adult. Forgetting Sarah Marshall features male genitalia laffs presented in unexpected and human ways (the nude breakup scene is played for giggles but also deep poignancy), and the language and sex scenes are strictly for grownups--and rightly so. Segel's script, and his performance as Peter, show that he understands the true nature of adult relationships, which provides the refreshing difference between this film and some of Apatow's other crude creations. The cast is sublime; Kristen Bell (Veronica Mars) plays title character Sarah, a self-absorbed actress, and Russell Brand is her new British honey who accompanies her to--what are the chances?--the exact same Hawaiian resort as Peter, who's nursing his broken heart. Mila Kunis plays Rachel, the resort employee who gives Peter a reason to hope, and Paul Rudd is the surfing instructor who gives him his own brand of heartfelt advice ("When life gives you lemons, just say 'F--- the lemons' and bail," he says cheerily). The pacing is screwball, and the absurdities fly (a "Dracula" musical puppet show, and a surprisingly lovely Hawaiian version of "Nothing Compares 2 U"). Nothing the viewer will forget any time soon.--A.T. Hurley

Synopsis

Knocked Up's Judd Apatow and Jason Segel reteam for this hilarious comedy about heartbreak. Segel also stars as Peter Bretter, a guy desperately trying to get over his ex (Kristen Bell, Veronica Mars) when he runs into her on vacation with her new boyfriend. Mila Kunis (That 70s Show) co-stars as the girl that just might help Peter move on.

I have the US unrated edition of this Blu-Ray, but there aren't too many differences, the picture quality is top rate and the sound also. 9/10 - worth the upgrade? Well if you've the proper equipment then yes - the extras are great and well worth a viewing.

I was a little weary before viewing, I had seen and loved Superbad and Knocked Up so that swayed me but I was worried of seeing an OTT chick flick and downright dull comedy. What I got instead was a pretty hilarious movie with just the right amount of romance and a whole lot of vulgar comedy also - the film might start a little slow but once we arrive in Hawaii, it doesn't look back. Having the gorgeous Rachel Jensen on board certainly helps but she isn't there just to add to the scenery, her role in the movie is great alongside Jason Segel.

My favourite part has to be the end, absolutely bizarre but hilarious - I want to see a feature length Dracula Musical now!
Without plot ruining, Forgetting Sarah Marshall is a typical rom-com with more than your average number of twists and naturally crude jokes.

There are some great cameo's in the movie from the Knocked Up / Superbad / 40 Year Old Virgin brigade - Bill Hader, Paul Rudd and Jonah Hill are great in their respected roles and are fast becoming favourites of mine - the new Apatow projects really have taken comedy movies to a new level over the next few years. Russell Brand who is a take it or leave it kind of guy, personally I leave him in the UK stand-up, but playing the cocky rock star Aldus Snow he is genius - one of the best characters of recent years, every time you see him on screen you know you will end up laughing.

I could go on, but I've done so enough already, so, finally, I will say, that those who liked Knocked Up, Superbad, and 40 Year-Old Virgin, will certainly enjoy this movie. I, personally, would rank it 2nd to Superbad and highly recommend this movie.

9 out of 10.

Hilarious! 9 Feb 2011

True to life and very funny. Russell Brand is excellent. Hawaii is stunning. Mila Kunis is beautiful and is a deadringer for the elusive and beguiling Fiona McLean.
If you want a laugh you can't go wrong with this fantastic comedy! It had me in stitches...

I guess i bought the blu ray from Amazon but honestly did not have high expectations from this movie as i am not a kristin bell fan...clearly surprised by Russel brand's performance.. & mila kunis' too... good movie with funny moments.. a nice tight script ...good direction.. slightly vulgar at times ... yet funny.. so i would'nt call it vulgar at all... kristin bell's got a role that suits her... all in all... a good movie... so watch & enjoy.... cheers

I'll be brief

It's too long, and for a comedy, it's not funny enough.

A few smiles were raised but no belly laughs and those smiles arent very frequent. Read more

Some Amusing Bits
It has too many annoying bits to rise to the ranks of "good", but it has enough amusing scenes to make you think you've not totally wasted your money. Read more

If only because of Mila Kunis
This may sound sexist but do I care. Not one bit. As a film this is very so-so. Fine for passing a couple of hours if you're bedridden. Read more
