Product Description

Review

Set in Torquay before the First World War, Forget-Me-Not is a genteel, romantic novel, encompassing characters that are endearing and portray an innocence that befits the period. Yet it parts from romantic tradition with certain themes - homosexuality and prostitution - which contrast greatly with its general feel and so makes them seem all the more shocking. These issues infer there is more to Emma Blair's 22nd novel than the first few rather jolly chapters suggest. Tim, a young, eager journalist, still lives with his mother Minna, who runs a boarding house, and spends his time riding his motorcycle and courting his first love Katherine. When the war begins, Tim joins the Royal Flying Corps and so the theme of death assumes prevalence. Whilst Tim is on leave, the novel takes a more romantic turn as he discovers the joys of lovemaking with a mature West End actress. But turmoil is to follow. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

I just felt I had to say how much I enjoyed this book. I've been a huge fan of Emma Blair's for a number of years and this is definitely one of her best. I loved the setting in Torquay, the older actress seducing the younger boy, a forbidden romance, forced marriage, tragedy of war. It had the lot for me, I laughed, I cried and I just could not put it down. In fact I read it through the night and into the dawn. As usual with Ms Blair's books, I can't wait for the next one. Definitely worth SIX stars.

Yet again, Emma Blair has written a book that you just can't put down. This time she has travelled back to the time of the Great War. Minna and her son, Tim, were wealthy until the untimely death of her husband. Since his death she has been running a small guest house in Torquay. Everything is very normal until a London actress comes to stay whilst she is acting for a season at the local theatre. Everyone's lives suddenly begin to change. This book is certainly a 'Forget-Me-Not'!
