Well the album was released today and I heard all the tracks properly for the first time, a few I had heard before but not all. It did not disapoint. As you listen to the album, you can imagine the band really enjoying themselves during the recording and that sense of fun comes across in waves.
Most of the tracks on the album are great up tempo songs, perfect for a warm summer's evening and they are impossible to keep still to. Right from the outset your feet will be tapping to "If the gaff don't let us down" and this continues until the first of the ballads which are well placed and just slow things down a bit to give you a rest before moving on back to the foot tapping that continues with the remainder of the album.
I have heard many comparissons between Skinny Lister and Mumford & Sons but these are somewhat unfair as their styles are very different. There are clearly some style similarities between them and the Pogues however, maybe that is why I find this album so instantly enjoyable.
Unusually for an album, I don't think there are any songs I don't like, yes there are favourites but every song stands up for itself rather than having a couple of rather bland fillers in there.
Really give this band a go, this album is a healthy dose of fun and good music mixed together.
