Biography

Skinny Lister are not your average, modern day, gentrified English folk group. Fronted by Dan Heptinstall and Lorna Thomas; a vocalist with a lusty cackle and flirtatious presence, the London based five-piece hail from across England. Borrowing the nickname from the Lister family, pioneers in the use of anesthetic, the band have grown naturally and organically over the past two years. ... Read more in Amazon's Skinny Lister Store

Well the album was released today and I heard all the tracks properly for the first time, a few I had heard before but not all. It did not disapoint. As you listen to the album, you can imagine the band really enjoying themselves during the recording and that sense of fun comes across in waves.

Most of the tracks on the album are great up tempo songs, perfect for a warm summer's evening and they are impossible to keep still to. Right from the outset your feet will be tapping to "If the gaff don't let us down" and this continues until the first of the ballads which are well placed and just slow things down a bit to give you a rest before moving on back to the foot tapping that continues with the remainder of the album.

I have heard many comparissons between Skinny Lister and Mumford & Sons but these are somewhat unfair as their styles are very different. There are clearly some style similarities between them and the Pogues however, maybe that is why I find this album so instantly enjoyable.

Unusually for an album, I don't think there are any songs I don't like, yes there are favourites but every song stands up for itself rather than having a couple of rather bland fillers in there.

Really give this band a go, this album is a healthy dose of fun and good music mixed together.

I was in HMV and this infectious album was playing. I wasn't the only one with tapping feet, smiling face and wondering who the heck it was. Sure there are bits of Mumford & Sons, some Pogues, even some Saw Doctors and Huckleberries.
But this album stands on it's own - good mix of vocals and not a weak track on it.
Straight on in the car on the way home - great motoring listening.
Can't wait for their next.

I bought this as a present for my Hubby. What can I say.... it has been constantly played since we recieved it. I don't think that there is one track on the cd that we dont like. Really catchy tunes, and would recommend this to everyone.

If you don't know Skinny Lister, or even if you do, you'll find this album cheers you up. All the tracks are fab, some are beautiful and tender, other will have you tapping along at least and, more likely, dusting off your best folk-dancing moves.
Superbly, wonderfully, folksy, happy stuff! Can't recommend it enough.
