I have love all of Carolyn Brown books, but some just a little bit more than the others. I have to say that this one is right at the top of my all time favorites, so far. In fact; I love this story so much, that I really don't know where to start first. It has so many twists and turns, that it will surely make your head swim.
Here's how it starts off....
Fancy Lynn Sawyer gave up her teaching job in Fl, and moves to Texas to take care of her grandmother. They had been notified that her grandmother had fallen and broke her hip, and was put into a nursing home/ rehab facility for the next three weeks. They also stated that when she came home she would need help getting around for another month or two, so Fancy was here to do what she could. It wasn't going to be easy though, because her grandmother has always been a very cantankerous woman. A woman who had always scared the crap out of Fancy for as many years as she could remember, and still did...
Her grandmother had always seemed like she hated Fancy and her mother Gwen, but no one really ever knew why. Gwen had Fancy when she was only sixteen years old, and Fancy's biological father had died before she was ever born. When she was about fifteen, her mother had finally found another man, and they married soon after and moved to Florida. Now fifteen years later, Fancy is back to take of her grandmother at the request of her mother.
The first week she was there, she was driving down the street when a black cat ran out in front of her car. Fancy swerved to miss the cat, and in the process she looses control of the car. When she looks up in the rear view mirror, she notices red and blue flashing lights. Then she notices a strong almond extract smell in her car, and realizes that the bottle she'd just bought for baking has broken and leaking all over her and the front seat. The officer mistakes her for a young teenager, he also thinks she's been drinking (although she passes the breathalizer test with flying colors). He still hauls her off to the station, throws her in a jail cell, until he can contact her parents to pick her up.He was shock to find out that she was telling him the truth when she'd told him she was thirty years old, and not the sixteen year old he'd first believed her to be.
That started a whole chain of events between these two. I don't want to go into too much more though, because if I do it will give the whole story away.
I will tell you this much though....
Fancy Lynn Sawyer says that before she'll even think about the M word, a man has to say the three magic words, but 'I love you' isn't enough. He has to promise her a forever thing.
Theron Warren (the officer who had arrested her that day) has absolutely no intention of falling in love again. His one failed marriage was painful enough. As an elementary school principal, part-time cop, and full-time ranch owner, he doesn't have time for the sassy woman who suddenly appears in his life: first in the jailhouse, then at his school and soon everywhere he turns.
Fate is trying to tell Fancy Lynn and Theron that they are soul mates, but is having a tough time convincing them.
Would I recommend this book! You better bet I would. If I could have rated this book a ten instead of a five I would have.
