Many will compare Husky to Fleet Foxes and Midlake. True there are number of instrumental passages that bear resemblance as do some of the vocal arrangements. I hear elements of John Barry as the arrangements are pretty impressively atmospheric.
While the album as a whole may not have the highs of the aforementiond bands I think the song writing is more consistent and arguably more interesting. There is no lull in the proceedings; the album flows well and keeps your interest throughout.
The production has as Neil Young would say 'the spook' and the album unfolds the more you listen to it. The arrangements are consistently great and there are subtle gear changes that keep you wrapped up in it. Lyrically it is quite enigmatic and in some way that sums up the music; elegantly enigmatic. For a debut album it really is quite an achievement and it's a little suprising they haven't made a bigger splash. It's a bit of a cliche but this recording is the architypal 'grower' and should grow in reputation.

I admit with no shame that I first heard the track 'Hunter' on Home & Away, and simply had to track it down. It's a haunting melody with lyrics that really resonated with what I'm going through at the moment. I have listened to it hundreds of times and am still not fed up of it. Since I have it in the car, I've also let the CD run, and I must say that I consider Husky quite a find. There are inevitable echoes of Crowded House, but that's a good thing, especially as it's in the harmonies and the melodies. Not every one is a favourite, but even those one or two are better than your average playlist. If you buy it, play track 5 first. You'll be happy you did. PS I was surprised not to see an advisory note on it, but since I don't have children, I didn't care!

Absolutely gorgeous!
Light, delicate, atmospheric, slightly haunting but not in a gloomy, roomy way, I absolutely love it!

Where are the reviews? 10 Aug. 2012

I'm baffled. Why no reviews for this beautiful music? I hate comparing, but if you like Fleet Foxes or Andrew Bird you'll surely enjoy Husky. Please give it a chance. My 1st "review" due to something needing to be said.

I'm so happy to have discovered this record. Beautiful songs (you won't want to skip through any of them), intelligent lyrics, lovely vocals and harmonies. A perfect soundtrack for autumn.

A Pleasure To Treat Your Ears And Mind To 6 Mar. 2013
By AthensMusicDan - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
This is one of those WOW albums...just so delicious...my speakers are smiling and saying 'thank you'. This one has such a deep, thick and lush sound. There's a lot going on here. In addition to attention grabbing lyrics presented generously by beautiful vocal harmonies, within this music lies many subtle sounds, intricate elements, delicate touches...horns, strings, acoustic, electric, atmospheric sonic enhancements...it's all here, resulting in a dynamic, full sound that defies tagging it with a 'genre', making this album the whole package. There is not a bad or weak song here...the entire thing is an aural work of art, and a pleasure to treat your ears and mind to.

Best album of 2012 28 Jan. 2013

My wife and I bought a lot of albums last year and this one stands out as my favorite.

The song writing, musicianship, and production is spectacular. Sounds like about ten years in the making.

Great guitar work, melodies, and harmonization. There is a lot going on and all the instruments just seem to fall into place perfectly.

Just buy it.

It's a masterpiece and deserves much more attention.

There isn't a single song on this album you'll want to skip. Husky is going to blow up any day. Can't wait for a North American tour.
