Painted Palms is a collaboration between two cousins who grew up together in Louisiana, but started making music over the Internet when one moved to San Francisco. Soon after, of Montreal's Kevin Barnes discovered the band and took them on tour. Although both cousins now live in San Francisco, they continue to write in isolation and trade song ideas via e-mail. For their debut full-length Forever, the duo pairs classic pop structures with modern electronic production to create instantly memorable melodies that show no sign of their virtual patchwork beginnings. // ...the electronically inclined psych-pop duo return to and expand the surf-lapped turf they staked out with 2011 s lush and joyous Canopy EP. SPIN // recaptures that sad-eyed, happy-footed disco-Beatlemania that made of Montreal's mid-aughts electronic renaissance so satisfying. Stereogum //

4.0 out of 5 stars Warm Fuzzy Pop Logic 14 Jan 2014
Given my advanced years I remain open to anything which points back in
time towards the Summer Of Love. An ageing hippie with a spoiled dream.
I was pleased, therefore, to meet the acquaintance of Painted Palms.
Cousins Reese Donohue and Christopher Prudhomme are certainly far too
young to remember the misguided spirit of late-sixties San Fransisco
but they have a jolly good crack at re-imagining it for themselves.

What they have done with their debut album 'Forever' is string together a
fine set of twelve songs which positively drip with psychedelic nostalgia.
They truly do know how to construct a good tune and their exemplary vocal
harmonies nail a sense of time and space with guileless and youthful alacrity.

At times there's a whiff of Rufus Wainwright about their inventions, especially
a number like 'Soft Hammer' which shares a fleeting kinship with 'Sanssouci'
from 'Release The Stars' (2007) but there's more than enough imagination
running backwards and forwards between this talented pair for us not
to dwell overlong on the influences which have informed their muse.

'Here It Comes' jingles and jangles along dreamily on a cloud of patchouli
scented incense; 'Sleepwalking', after a somewhat uncertain introduction,
settles down into a perfect slice of kaftan-wrapped hippie heaven and final
track, the gorgeous 'Angels' saves the best tune of the bunch until last.

Painted Palms play it like they mean it and I found myself believing.

4.0 out of 5 stars bouncy electro-pop with some friendly distorted synthesizer 17 Jan 2014
By Charlie Quaker - Published on Amazon.com
San Francisco debut of joyous, bouncy electro-pop with some friendly distorted synthesizer
bleeps & beats over rhythmic melodies, catchy hooks and inviting vocal harmonies. Consistent
smatterings of 60s psych/pop lend some warmth and retro-fun to the overall feel, which
seamlessly integrates some experimental atmospherics into the core of bliss. Similarities to Of
Montreal, Girls, Olivia Tremor Control, Elf Power, Mutual Benefit, the Beatles.
