Product Description

CD Description

Forever Now is the third album by The Psychedelic Furs. Roger Morris (second guitar) and Duncan Kilburn (horn) having left the band, the foursome were augmented by producer Todd Rundgren's house horn section and Flo & Eddie. It was released in September 1982 on the CBS Records label. It featured the hit single "Love My Way." It was reissued with bonus tracks in 2002 by Columbia/Legacy. The reissue also used Barney Bubbles' originally album cover design. Columbia changed the album cover to the red-tinted design to imitate the design of the previous album Talk Talk Talk. The song, "Love My Way" has appeared in several movies and videogames including Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, The Wedding Singer, Valley Girl and as downloadable content for the Rock Band series.

Forever Furs. 24 Jun 2005
By Dudley Serious VINE™ VOICE
Format:Audio CD
Old sounds for the summer. A whole slew of contemporary bands openly acknowledge the influence of key eighties artists, among them The Psychedelic Furs. Talented young outfits like Interpol, for example, have a sound not a million miles removed from the Furs' particular brand of magic. "Forever Now", their third album moved away from their earlier more spiky feel. They hired studio wizard Todd Rundgren to create a more layered, textured sound. Allegedly band and producer did not get on too well but the end result was well worth any possible struggles, bringing the "wall of melody" they had talked of to maturity.

Richard Butler's languorous vocals sit, or loll even (very seductively I might add), at the centre of the beautiful storm worked up by his bandmates. He opens singing "You have to have a party when you're in a state like this" and he's not wrong. His forty-a-day drawl is more hypnotic than ever in the measured pace of this album compared to its (very fine indeed) predecessors. And when he sings "Let it stay forever now" you can't help but agree with him.

It's a crying shame that the Furs weren't more popular and I'm in good company saying this: Paul Weller, I believe, said the same thing a long time ago. We haven't heard the last of them, though. They have been touring the States extensively in recent times so fingers crossed they come back to blighty soon to wow us with their mesmerising music full of casual irony and almost carelessly perceptive insights on the nature of life and love. And then go back into the recording studio. Forever now. Foerever Furs.

The "Furs" were at their absolute height with this album and that is saying something given how brilliant Talk Talk Talk was. From the excitement of "Forever Now" to the sublime coolness of "President Gas", the pop classic "Love My Way" and the lazy splendour of "No Easy Street", it is pure genius from start to finish. But its the underbelly of this album that gives it its magnificent strentgh - any other band of the last 30 years would have loved to have written such catchy original songs such as "Yes I Do", "Sleep Comes Down" or "Only You and I". The lyrics are spot on and the production catches the raw energy of a band at their peak. The bonus songs on this edition are a fabulous addition and in no way leftovers. Almost 25 years later, the music is as fresh as anything you'll hear.

By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
The third studio album by the Furs, recorded in 1982, captures them at their very best. The roughness of their earlier work has been smoothed out but they are not drowned in the over-production of their later efforts. Richard Butler's nonsensical lyrics are carried on wave after wave of soaring and diving flanged guitars, synthesizers and saxophone. The highlight of the album is the Bowie-esque "Love My Way" which should have been a huge hit but somehow the single just never took off. Like Ultravox, the Furs were always a boys band, their soulless lyrics and disregard of fashion never really appealing to the other sex. This re-release won't attract any new fans but if you've always been meaning to buy one Furs album on CD, this is the one to get.
