Format: Paperback
I found the book to be written very poorly and I believe Shaw was a ghost writer on this one interviewing Hoover and then turning the answers into first person accounts. It doesn't work. But the stories themselves more then make up for the 5th-grade level writing.
Hoover's life is one of the most charmed and exciting that I've ever read about. This man has faced death more times then I'd thought possible both as POV and test pilot. He is a true hero and modern aviation is sure to be in his debt forever.
Some of the stories depicted in this book defy imagination...

Format: Paperback
Hoover, called by Chuck Yeager "The greatest pilot
I ever saw", in his incredible career barnstormed
in an E-2 Taylor Cub, escaped from the Nazis in a
stolen Focke-Wulf 190, flew combat over North Korea,
test-flew supersonic jets, and was regarded by
Jimmy Doolittle as "the greatest stick-and-ruddr
man who ever lived".

The winner of practically every flying award, Hoover
also knew everyone from Orville Wright to Neil
Armstrong and has been seen by millions in his
aerobatic careen at all the major air shows.

His story, entertainingly told here, is not only
his personal history, but also the history of
American aviation for the last sixty years. Highly
recommended for aviation buffs and lovers of tales
of true personal adventure.

Format: Paperback
Bob Hoover is one of, if not the, best pilot in the world. From his military days and doing time in a German prison camp to his days as an aerobatic pilot he has seen and flown it all. This book reads like a dream that I didn't want to end. If you like aviation or just want to read a great autobiography read this book.

Format: Paperback
I greatly enjoyed this candid autobiography by one of the great pilots of all time. The writing style may not be great art, but the authentic, gritty stories gave you a clear sense of some of the most exciting adventures you could imagine. I gained great respect for the man and found myself laughing out loud at many of his tales. I recommend it highly, and not just for pilots or aviation enthusiasts.
