This Greek singer (actually born in Egypt) originally became popular in mainland Europe as lead singer of Aphrodite's child. Their European hits included Rain and tears, I want to live and It's five o'clock (all included here), of which Rain and tears made the UK charts in 1968, but it only just made the top thirty.
Eventually, Demis embarked on a solo career. Again, he had much greater success in mainland Europe than the UK, but he still managed three top five UK hits, one of which was an EP that topped the singles chart. The main track on the EP (Forever and ever) remains the track that Demis is best remembered for in Britain, but When forever has gone (a number two hit) and Happy to be on an island in the sun (a number five hit) showed that he was no one-hit wonder
This contains all the tracks that Demis is famous for in Britain, together with plenty of other fine songs.
I eventually bought the double CD The Singles +
, which omits the Aphrodite's Child tracks but covers his solo music of the seventies and eighties in greater depth.
