5.0 out of 5 stars A very cool film, 5 Feb 2006
By A. Chapman "gutteral69" (St. ives, Cambs) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I first read about this film on some horror site and thought what a cool sounding film. Forest of the damned's plot is basically in the forest dwell these fallen angels, they were cast out of heaven for having sexual desire, now they inhabit this forest seducing and then eating anyone who wanders into it. So a group of people get lost and get stuck in the middle of a forest, you can probably guess the rest.

This is quite a low budget film and it shows in the cast, with the exception of the legend Tom Savani making a guest appearance, the acting isn't brillient, it's not all bad but some of it isn't great. But this is low budget horror and a bit of crap acting gives it charm. The film also tries to be different, some of it's shots are quite adventureous for instance it has this longish montage of them running thru the forest with no dialogue just shots of the main protaganists looking lost through a night vision lense, but i think it works. It can be quite gory at times, not over the top but enough to get a reaction. This film has a great mix of Gore, Sex and Bad acting to give it real cult appeal.

This is a great film and one which horror fans will enjoy.
Check it out

It's so bad it's brilliant. Check out the getaway from the mad axeman - it's a getaway on a tractor.

2.0 out of 5 stars Could have been better, 22 Oct 2008
By Mr. Jonathon T. Beckett "vampire lover" (Dracula's Crypt) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I'm all for low budget British horror. Most of the films I watched as a teenager fall into that category. However, they were all at least garishly entertaining, with interesting concepts and buckets of blood.
There is an interesting idea here too, that of fallen angels doomed to forever roam the forest looking for victims to entrance and feed on. The films builds up quite a nice atmosphere, and a feeling of mounting unease, only to go nowhere with it. The actors are all adequate but no one stands out and Tom Savini only has a small role which wastes his talents. The cinematography is good, as are the special effects, but I was left feeling that if Johannes Roberts had tried a bit harder he could have made a far more interesting, imaginative film. I felt that he did a much better job with When Evil Calls with its mini cautionary tales.
Still, its not the disaster that some reviews would have you believe, and theres a nice cameo from Shaun Hutson at the end( my how he's aged since I last saw him in the flesh, guesting on James Whale in the late 1980's)
The DVD release is okay, but nothing special

What attracted me to this film in the first place was the brilliant Shaun Hutson starring in it! Really wish I had not bothered. It was awful, awful, awful. Read more

This may be in my top 10 worst films of all time. The acting was terrible, the special effects were worse and the plot was weak!
