I found it a great book to make sense of things that cause misunderstandings/miscommunications between people from different cultural backgrounds. The author illustrates her points effectively with many examples, many of which seem to 'ring a bell' with our own situations of living cross culturally. It has done a round in our local international group, I have lent it to countless friends who wants to pass it on to others, and I have ended up buying quite a few copies to give / to lend. It is not an academic treatise on the subject but a down to earth readable book which sheds light on our own quirky ways.

I am widely traveled and have lived for many years in a number of very different cultures and environments. I am ever fascinated by these experiences and have longed for a book that would seek to explain what I have found over the years. Unfortunately I am still looking - this is simplistic, utterly unconvincing and void of any analysis to grab one's attention. The anecdotes, whether or not they are real, were not ones I could readily identify with and again, seemed to jump to conclusions the story didn't appear to justify. A waste of time and money.
