AS Patrick Bateman said in the book "In '87, Huey released this, Fore, their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Hip to be Square", a song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity, and the importance of trends, it's also a personal statement about the band itself."

In an age of bland unremembered rubbish, of over hyped mediocrity this album still stands tall. In an age were to many young people think The X factor is were stars are born, this album shows them that the likes of Simon, Lewy & Sharon really couldn't`t tell what Talent was if it bit `em in the arse !

This is a throw away type album that's loaded down with one killer track after another. Every track here would be & most were singles. This is like a greatest hits album before it was released. Of all the albums of the 80`s this one didn`t get that much credit as it was & is very American sounding so it wasn`t afforded the same respect as say ABC The Lexicon Of Love or Tears For Fears Songs From The Big Chair or Bruce Springstiens Born In The USA or Michael Jacksons Thriller but believe me you`ll play this as much as those albums i`ve mentioned. The 2 big singles here in the UK were "The Power Of Love" used in the 1st Back To The Future Film & "Hip To Be Square" but honestly every track here's a killer. This is one of those albums that you`ll instantly push the replay button on your CD player as soon as it finish`s Again & Again. If you want to hear an album that reminds you of a better time Of long summer nights & loads a money !! Then this piece of Americana is highly highly recommended Don't Hesitate Go Buy !!

Peering at the track list on the back of this CD in one of those kids-in-a-sweetshop kind of record stores and without a huge knowledge (or any other HL&TN recordings) of the band, the amount of recognisable tracks lead me to think that this was indeed a Huey Lewis & the News greatest hits compilation.

My fiver spent (secondhand) and back at home, it plays like an album proper, but with the consistently high quality of really strong and decent tracks of a best of.

All the songs, whatever mood and style they're written/played in, sound fresh and engaging, with an undoubted American feel, that confidence and cool swagger coming to the fore, such as in the Doing It for My Baby. The classic 'Hip to be Square' I remember clearly from its original release, though I was into synth bands then, and if there's ever a tonic and a jump out of bed, 'Start Me Up' sort of anthem, it's this. Track 8, which on my CD is the hit The Power of Love, not what Amazon has listed, is another stand-out track, of course.

There's a great rat-pack sort of comarderie about it all, you can't help feel that the boys had a great time making the record and can imagine them joking about between takes.

So, plenty to enjoy and for those who want to try some Huey Lewis but not necessarily want a greatest hits, like me, you might think it actually is one and so has to be highly recommended. I was most pleasantly surprised and it's been played more than its fair share since!

You like Huey Lewis & The News? Their early work was a little too 'new wave' for my taste, but when "Sports" came out in '83 they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear crisp sound and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost! He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humour.
In '86 Huey released this, "Fore!” their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Hip To Be Square", a song so catchy most people probably don’t listen to the lyrics but they should. Because it’s not just about the pleasures of conformity and the importance of trends, it’s also a personal statement about the band itself.

The album Fore! was released in 1986. Fore! was a succesful follow up of the million seller Sports, the album that lead to the definitive breakthrough all over the world. Huey Lewis & the News have been all over the place stylistically. Fore! is good proof of that. The Power of Love, I know what I like and even Jacobs' Ladder a examples of ther solid Rock. Whole lotta lovin is good old fashioned Rock and Roll. Stuck with you, doin' it (all for my baby) are classic pop songs. And of course there is Hip to be square, with the Tower of Power horns, the horn section which used to support HLN during the 80's. The album also contains one a capella song (Naturally). A capella songs have always been a speciality of HLN. Anyone who has visited a live performance can agree with that. In short Fore! has it all. One really couldn't tell that it's original release was more then 15 years ago.

This is quite possibly the best that they ever did. It is well made and the songs are catchy, light, and hummable. Is it worth 5 stars. Only if this is the only sort of thing that you like. It is hardly a world-shaking album which is what the 5 rating ought to be kept for. If you like HL and the News then this is an absolute must. If this whole genre is not what lights your candle then this will not change your mind at all.
It is I think a great pop/rock album but nothing more than that. You will find nothing new or innovative, nothing inviguorating, surprising or inspiring. I doubt anyone has decided to pick up an instrument and play on the basis of hearing this. But it will have inspired some romantic moments, caused a kiss and cuddle between couples listening to it years ago and that's enough.
I am afraid that after this album things go down hill for them, which was a shame because it was a bit of an uphill climb to get here. The just went TOO middle of the road after this, hard as that is to imagine.
