Product Description

Product Description

The fabulous success of Ford's Mustang in America inspired Ford's British and German branches to do likewise. The sporty coupe they created, the Ford Capri, was launched in 1969 as the first joint production of the brand-new Ford of Europe. Capri was a signal success with almost 1.9 million made when production ended in 1987. Its rakish lines, keen pricing and broad power offerings gave the Capri wide appeal not only in Europe but also in America, which imported the Mark I and II versions from 1970 to 1977 for sale through Lincoln-Mercury dealers. The Mark III for Europe followed in 1978. No paper tigers, these classy coupes were formidable rally and racing cars as this book's illustrations reveal. A Capri insider, former Ford of Europe executive Karl Ludvigsen introduces the Capri saga and illuminates the many rare images from his world famous Ludvigsen Library. A feast for fans of the Blue Oval, this book's pages bring to life the exciting story of one of the best loved Fords of all time.

We've just bought this book for the Capri Club office and will be happily recommending it to all our Club members in the club magazine.

It's a great little book filled with stacks of well known pictures and a few rarer ones too. Is a delight to flick through and would make a great gift for any Capri fan

Nice Capri picture book 23 Jan 2010
By Rand Thompson - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book consists entirely of nice Capri photos with the only text other than the photo captions being a nice introduction of the Capri's history. The content includes the 1969-74 Capri I, 1974-1978 Capri II and the 1979-1987 Capri III.

There is a nice variety of pictures with most being outstanding factory issued press photos including both the exterior and interior. The book also includes some nice pictures of the racing Capri's. Although all the photos are in black & white with the exception of the great cover shot, they are all nicely done.

After the success of the original 1964 Mustang Ford thought a similar concept for Europe would be a big seller. A big seller it was, as the original bodystyle Mk. I version introduced in 1969 would sell over a million copies worldwide as it took Europe by storm. The car was so successful, after a restyle to the hatchback Capri II & III that it remained in production until 1987. Ford named the Capri one of it's top 25 "Heart & Soul" vehicles of all time in honor of the companies 100th anniversay.

I am fortunate enough to own a 1973 Capri, and if you also own one of these cars, the book is a must. Even if you always liked them, but never owned one you will find it enjoyable. If you are looking for more text than just pictures the Capri book by Graham Robson would probably be a better choice.
Monochrome coffee-table book 5 Feb 2010
By LJ Haasbroek - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is a picture book featuring the "mini-Mustang" Ford Capri from 1969 until its production end in 1987. The book starts with a well written concise history of the Capri sourced from cited historians. Thereafter it has a large photo per page, including a short caption, page after page until the book ends some 120 pages later. As a treat some rare models are shown including custom models like the Capri Perana models build by Basil Green in South Africa.

I was somewhat disappointed to see that all the photos are in black-and-white. I suspect the publisher tried to save publishing costs. This decision is odd as the book is positioned as a coffee-table picture book where colour photos are important. Even though, I think any Capri fan would enjoy a copy of this book.

Another book I also found to be a mini-encyclopedia on the Capri, if you are looking for even more historic detail on the Capri consider adding Ford Capri (Crowood Autoclassics) to your book collection.
