Product Description

Product Description

In The Soul of London (1905) Ford Madox Ford (1873-1939) gives a vivid impression of the excitement and challenge of the greatest city of modern times. In its evocation of the growth of London over the centuries and the bewildering variety of the city scene by day and night, the glamour and frivolity of its 'high' life and the hardship and endurance of its working people The Soul of London displays a stylishness and humanity which make it a work of imaginative literature and not a guide book. It is also a prophetic survey of the way modernsociety was developing, and foreshadows the social isolation, anonymity and alienation which were to transform the forms and substance of literature in the twentieth century.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worst quality copy I've come across yet, 3 Nov 2010
I had this text assigned for a university course, so I know a number of other people came to the same conclusion: this edition of Ford's "The Soul of London" is a sham. The pages are very poor photocopies bound together to look like a book. The vast majority of the pages contain black marks across the corners so that large portions of the text are entirely illegible. I would not recommend this to anyone.

1.0 out of 5 stars don't buy this edition, 16 May 2011
This edition is only 50% fully legible. The publisher includes a disclaimer pointing out that irregularities or blemishes may appear due to the scanning process, but the truth is that the scanning is so poor that much of the text is blacked out or legible only with difficulty. If you buy it, you will be terribly disappointed. It's nothing short of a con.

1.0 out of 5 stars rip off, 3 Feb 2012
By neilkeron - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: The Soul of London: A Survey of a Modern City (Paperback)
The company selling this work is ripping people off. It is a photocopy of an old book which claims to have occasional imperfections. In fact at least 20% of the pages are illegible making the book utterly useless. Having had this shipped from the US to Australia I am faced with a significant mailing bill to get redress.

DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK
