Here is a really excellent historical dvd by none other than the true experts on historical automobillia Duke.
This disc takes you on a trip of how because Henry Ford failed to buy Ferrari he set out to design a car that would trounce the Italian Stallion at the famous Le Man 24hr.The original designers and plans are discussed showing how successful the car was from day one.
Those of you looking for the technical aspect of the car willnot be dissappointed but where this dvd really excells is the interviews with current owners of genuine Le Man competing cars. One owner with authentic detail that nobody can denie that was on an original part of one of the Le Mans cars actually uses the car on almost regular basis.Pieces of a Lancaster Bomber were applied to only two Le Mans cars.
If an interview with current owners is interesting enough the best is saved till last.
Tiff Neddel of Top Gear and Fith Gear fame is invited to drive at full race speed two very different GTs.One is the Le Man 24 car in the famous GULF colours, and the other is the all white car owned by no other than Henry Ford himself.
The power of that Weslake V8 is breathtaking and driving from a standing start Tiff easily sees 200mph on the speedo whilst thundering down a dissused runway. It is interesting in the close up shots of the interior of both cars.
Secondly the very valuable Gt owned by Mr Ford is taken to the road and is treated like any other very fast car by being allowed to overtake slower traffic on quite narrow roads.
Also shown are two short films of Gts taking part in famous hill climbs.
The only shortcoming was the lack of comparrison between the original GT40 and the all new Ford GT.We are shown both cars together but nothing really serious is mentioned such as how old technology compares with the new.
Apart from this the Dvd gives a very interesting account of the history of this famous racer and covers everything in just enough detail to send you away satisfied for more.
