Review

‘Consistently excellent … loaded with gunfights, snappy dialogue and the aerial hijinks of supersonic jet fighters. The high testosterone doses satisfy, but best is the complex and clever web of motive Kent weaves for the mole.’ Publishers Weekly, on TOP HOOK

‘The concept of the character-driven thriller had seemed almost a contradiction in terms – until recently, when in the hands of Gordon Kent, the descriptor has begun to make exciting sense.’ Booklist, on TOP HOOK

‘Kent knows his subject at first hand and the expertise shows on the page: high stakes, pounding tension and the best dogfights put on paper. A lot of thrillers these days, you come away feeling like you’ve been in a simulator. Gordon Kent straps you into the real thing. Enjoy the ride!’ IAN RANKIN, on NIGHT TRAP

‘Flying, spying and dying – NIGHT TRAP is the real straight Navy stuff. Better strap yourself to the chair. I loved it.’ STEPHEN COONTS

Product Description

From the acclaimed author of Top Hook and Hostile Contact, the fifth exhilarating tale of modern espionage and military adventure featuring US Navy intelligence officer Alan Craik – sure to appeal to the many fans of Tom Clancy and Dale Brown.

Alan Craik and his US Navy battlegroup confront two new enemies: international, organized crime and a massive storm at sea.

Alan is back on the aircraft carrier USS Thomas Jefferson, using the latest radar technology to monitor smuggling craft in the Indian Ocean between Pakistan and Somalia. As a break he is sent ashore to assess the port of Mombasa for a forthcoming liberty visit.

While the battlegroup remains at sea because of a brewing storm, he arrives in Mombasa safely. But he is hardly on the beach when a US Navy support ship is blown up at the dockside. Chaos ensues, and further acts of violence. Soon – cut off from support by the storm at sea – Alan is charged with the task of tracking down the faceless people behind these apparently motiveless terrorist attacks.

Strong return to form 12 July 2006
By N. Brett TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:Paperback
The latest in the series featuring navel intelligence officer Alan Craik. I really enjoyed the previous outings, but found the previous novel Hostile Contact rather tedious and very hard going. It was with some trepidation I approached this one but I am delighted to advise that the author(s) are back on top form.

When a Navy ship is blown up in Mombassa, Craik is on hand to get his hands dirty. First, as the ranking officer on hand he has to protect the survivors and then he has to find out who was behind the bombing.

This is fast paced and easy enjoyable reading. The authors avoid the obvious Middle East bad guys and they never let you feel you know where the story is going.

Good stuff and great to see them back on form.

OK Action Novel 4 May 2007
By J.Flood
Format:Paperback
When a US Naval ship is blown up in Mombassa, it is up to naval intelligence officer, Alan Craik, to protect the survivors of the blast, and try to find out who was responsible for the bombing.

The action moves between Kenya, Washington, Houston, and in particular Cairo, when a building is bombed there also.

The novel is fairly well paced, my only gripe being, that there is lot of characters that are introduced, along with the different agencies, CIA,FBI,NASA,DEA etc., that they belong to. This made the story a bit more complex, than was possibly necessary.

It is said that two heads are better than one, this series of novels goes a long way in proving that to be true. It isn't just that the stories and the characters are entirely credible, it is the interaction between them, and the fully rounded minor characters, the humour and the banter, simply a joy to read. In this one, the US Navy comes under attack in an African port but it is not the usual suspects who are responsible, so who is and why? Highly recommended.
