Format:Mass Market Paperback
WOW! This book was one of the best books I've ever read. Ever wondered what happened to old foes like the Ssi-Ruuk, and friends like the Bakurans? This book (and the one before it, Force Heretic I : Remnant) brings back old species from previous books and tells us how the war with the Vong has affected them. This is what really gives the book a punch!
Refugee also develops further Luke, Mara and Jacen's search for Zenoma Sekot, a sentient planet that could hold the key to driving back the Vong, on their trip they meet a host of new characters and some old ones like Baron Fel. The book also expand on the turmoil within Tahiri, who is still deeply affected by here capture by the Vong and the death of Anakin.
Overall, this is a great book which I recommend to everyone, I think that if this quality of writing is continued, the 3rd novel in the trilogy, Force Heretic III : Reunion will be a thouroughly entertaining novel.

good solid NJO novel. Well written and the characters are handled well. the book as a standalone is actually plotted better than most. the thing is that the story itself is really annoying - i hated Bakura and the ssiruuk the first time around in 'Truce' but this is them again in a convoluted tale of betrayal and deception. They are rubbish enemies and entechment is a crappy technology that doesnt really fit into star wars at all. so to have to go back there is just annoying. The story itself is fine - but the ending is messy - the small 3 page sections seem like in the wrong order sometimes. overall solid storytelling but a bit underwhelming and an annoying subject. (plus luke spends the entire book in a library!!)

This book stays true to the format of the movies, in regards to diving straight into the action. The battle between Luke and his team, and the very alien Krizlaws is a great start to the book, and really grabbed my attention.
The book's plot unfolds gradually and at a normal pace (unlike some other NJO books-cough,cough- Dark Journey). The plot twists were also really good. In some star wars books (Rogue Planet), the plot was too obvious, and made a boring read. This book, however, is completely unpredictable. The P'w'eck changed sides more times than i can remember!!That is a great asset to any book, and a major reason for my high rating.
Williams' and Dix's characterisation was bang-on. The growing relationship between Danni and Jacen was heart warming, and Jag is really becoming open about his feelings with Jaina. I can really see them becoming the next Han and Leia.
Another great character- Tahiri. I never heard of Tahiri until i started reading the NJO series. Frankly, i didnt like her a lot in earlier NJO books. But Dix and Williams handled her well, and i really like her now. She's going through so many problems, and Williams and Dix get her reactions down to a tee, making the book seem more real. And the twist at the end was soooo unexpected!! what are they going to do about Tahiri? i cant wait for the next book!!
