Not to be confused with the(apparently)short-lived soulsters of a few years ago, or the anarcho-punk protest group of the 60's/70's this is actually a bonafide "supergroup" of various talents such as guitar legend Chris Spedding, Glen Matlock - bass, ex-Pretenders' Martin Chambers on drums, Stephen W Parsons aka Snips on vocals (must admit I've never heard of him but apparently he is a film composer and was vocalist of "legendary" Seventies band Sharks - no disrespect intended) and introducing hot new guitar talent Sixteen.
And they produce an entertaining blend of rockabilly boogie style, old fashioned, rock n roll with a modern slant, mixed with a couple of slower country tinged tracks. On this album the band sound like a more "adult" Kings of Leon or a more up to date and heavier sounding Stray Cats. A website I've read, describing their live show, said "The band draw on the Spirit of '69 to bring the raw power and spirit of that golden age of music into a contemporary setting - but will be a treat for all fans of Fifties and Sixties culture, as well as the classic rock n roll, beat, americana, rockabilly, psychedelic rock and surf musical genres to name but a few." So allowing for an element of hyperbole here, that's just about all the bases covered then.

But seriously, this is an album that entertains and gets the toes tapping and is over all too soon. A bit of a hidden gem really.

Really like this album, the Matlock (Sex Pistols) Chambers (Pretenders) rhythm section works extremely well, surprised to hear that these two haven't been paired together before. To find a guitarist (Sixteen) who can hold his own alongside Chris Spedding is a big surprise, plus some great vocals from SWP too. So many good tracks particularly enjoyed 'American Slaves'. Highly recommended. Force 9

Great pop songs with weight - this band packs a real punch with big songs, and a heavy sound. It's a real rounded album with atmospheric epics ('China Waters') and cool dancefloor-oriented stuff ('Selene Selene'), enjoyable and distinctive from first to last. Some big names in the line-up, so it was great to see they've all brought their considerable talents to bear on this record. A treat.

I was a fan of the band Sharks in the 70's who Steve Parsons (Snips) and Chris Spedding were in along with Andy Fraser from Free, they were a great little band and produced two rock/soul orientated albums of high quality. They re-united in the mid 90's for another high quality record as Sharks and that was it! so i thought!
Heavens alive i come accross them again by accident on the net as King Mob teaming up with young guitarist "sixteen" and ex sex pistol Glen Matlock on bass and Martin Chambers on drums from the Pretenders.
So to the record which is alot of fun, the album is filled with top notch "ROCK & ROLL" played with a rare swagger, singer Snips voice has lost none of it's power the band behind him are superb simply rocking the house down. The album kicks off with 'Lover of High Renown'an energetic blast of boogie which sets the tone for some more of the same. The only let up in pace is the slower song Chapel of Love which changes tempo mid-song building to a wonderful climax a fantastic song. The rest of the record is pure high adrenalin rock and roll a real throwback superb stuff, there are hints of rockabilly here and there with some unusual guitar lines but the template is to get those feet tapping and on that level the record excells.
This record deserves to be heard by anyone who appreciates proper rock n' roll, great performances all round.

Just to add to the above - I saw these guys last night in London - superb live act, true professionals and Snips was a revelation as a lead singer. I really hope this is not a one-off thing as they deserve a much wider audience. And the wife got to chat with Glen in Pizza Express before the show. A true nice man in a tough business.
