5.0 out of 5 stars Forbidden - Taboo 2. Could not put this book down 7 May 2012
By Voraciousreader - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
Taboo was a cover to cover read, and Hayden Chance scores again as Forbidden is another can't put it down book, which I devoured in one sitting.

Forbidden takes up where Taboo left off, and the Dark Man finally gets named.

The book is written well enough to be a stand alone read, yet I highly recommend reading Taboo first. Doing this adds a better understanding to the action that is packed into Forbidden, and gives even more depth and richness to the characters.

Casey, who was introduced in Taboo, gets drawn further into Aiden's life and has a chance to transcend his ordinary existence and develop into something extraordinary. Does he take the opportunity? This major thread of tension in the story, finding the answer to this question, keeps you turning page after page.

As the plot entertainingly twists and turns, the magical components increase and enchant. Casey chooses his destiny, but where will it lead him?

With this and other plot elements, including mysterious new characters, left dangling tantalizingly at the end of the book, once again Hayden Chance delivers a satisfying read, yet leaves you primed for more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another riveting read... Taboo 2... Forbidden 3 May 2012
By Don Jarrett - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
I read the first book the day it was released and when that thrill-ride was over, I wanted to see where those characters went next. Now there's a whole new bunch of even more compelling characters entering the story, just as we learn even more about the old favorites.

I read this book in two nights, neglecting ust about everything else. We join the movement of the story already in progress and picking up speed, headed toward a climax that is so organic to the development and yet so unpredictable. I love that.

So, if you are looking for an m/m urban fantasy, embroidered with ancient myth, magic and mystery... this is your next "new find." This story can stand on its own... but it'll make more sense if you pick up the first one -- first.

Even when we begin to get the answers to the questions that have plagued us there are times when that is simply not enough. What does it take to be able to reconcile all we have wanted and desired with the things that we actually need? Our lives are filled with opportunities to not only better ourselves but to help others find their path. But there's a fine line between making sure those around us are truly getting what they need in their lives versus what we feel they are worthy of receiving. Only when we can place their needs before our own are we able to truly see what it is that we need in return.

Our story picks up where "Taboo" left off; right in the middle of the mystery and intrigue that is building to a fevered pitch. What's to come of the relationship between Aiden and The Dark Man when there is a mysterious house guest in tow. How do we plan for what's in store when there are too many pieces of the puzzle missing? These two books dig deep into you and cause you to do some pretty deep introspection. It's not everyday that an author is able to do that especially in the small space that Hayden has been working with. These books aren't long in respect to other pieces of modern fiction so the things he's able to do within a smaller page count is nothing short of stellar. He has created a fantastic world that, if you let it; will pull you in and open your mind up to the most remote possibilities within your own life. When you start questioning Aiden's motives or Casey's... are you actually questioning your own? There's something magical in the way that these books are writing where you can draw so much inference in your own life.

I feel that this book is where you start to get an idea of who Hayden is as an author as his writing style starts to hit it's stride. His language is clear and the images he creates with his words are second only to the paintings only a master painter could pull out of a canvas. If you close your eyes and suspend your disbelief for just a moment, you can smell the leather in Casey's jacket or a woodsy, earthy smell that makes you feel like home. These are skills that authors that have been writing for double his career have difficulty mastering. I am thankful for this new age of digital publishing because stories like these deserve to be told and read by the masses. They are important because the enable us to look at all we have and cause us to make a decision to see where we stand and what side are we standing for.
5.0 out of 5 stars You don't know temptation.. 12 May 2012

This book picks up where Taboo left off. On the surface, we continue the story of Aiden and the Dark Man. The estate serves as the home front for most of the book. Magic is even more evident now and there are fewer worldly concerns. But that also means there are greater magical workings going on and even more questions than before. What are the dark shapes that playfully torment humans? What fey spirit dances in the trees? Who are allies and who have their own agenda? And what are the intentions of the mysterious race of naga and their powerful queen?
The story moves at a brisk pace and is very easy to lose track of time as you read. I found myself sitting down to read just a chapter or two and consuming nearly half the book instead. I was cheering for the hero and cringing in alarm when he veered off his path. He continues to grow and become the powerful entity he is destined to be but also makes mistakes along the way.
Beneath the surface, there's so much to take in: spirits, demons, friends, enemies, frenemies, lovers. There's no shortage of material. The author understands these things and how he intertwines them in the story is mesmerizing. He's working a magic of his own. Each time I read this I am learning something new about the story and about myself.
Aiden shows us that the easy path before isn't always the best path to take. Sometimes, forging a new path will take us where we want to go but there will be a price to pay. Be prepared to pay the price of reading: your mind will be expanded.
If you haven't read Taboo yet, it, too, is worth the read. I believe you can read them independently but the story will have a much deeper meaning for you if you do yourself service the of reading both.
