Book Description

15 Feb 2012
Desperate to stay put in L.A. long enough to finish high school at the elite Emerson Academy, Claire Brennan hides the psychic visions she s been having from her paranoid, overprotective mother, even the ones warning her she s in danger. Fed up with his duties to watch and, when necessary, eliminate the superhuman descendants of his angelic forefathers, Alec MacKenzie abandons his post in the hopes of experiencing a normal life at Emerson. But he didn t count on falling in love with Claire, a half angel, whose very existence is forbidden. Cowritten by the bestselling author of The Lost Memoirs of Jane Austen and her video-game developer/director son, Forbidden is a lighthearted romance with a unique angel mythology, compelling dual narration, page-turning action, and cinematic writing. Fans of the House of Night, Strange Angels, and Iron King series will fall in love with this engaging, fast-paced novel.

By Book Angel Emma VINE™ VOICE
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
So you may have already guessed that I am a complete sucker for angel books. This was a definite case of love at first sight of that cover. Although I did enjoy the story as a whole I can honestly say that there was nothing new here at all and this is reflected in my rating. Don't get me wrong its a fun, light read that is a terrific way of whiling away a few hours and I am definitely interested to see how the story progresses in the next book.

The dual first person narrative works really well and I found it interesting that the authors are Mother and Son, they are very much in tune as writers and the characters they have created are believable and realistic (well as realistic as angels get anyway).

The best way I can think to describe this book is a mash-up of angel paranormal romance alongside a Da Vinci Code type thriller, with warring angel factions, secret divisions within the factions looking for peace with Claire as a pivotal piece to both sides, creates an engaging plot. The romantic element is compelling; the chemistry between Claire and Alex added to the overall effect of the plot. The history and origin of the Nephilim is well depicted and believable. There is plenty of action to keep the plot flowing smoothly.

As I said earlier my rating is a reflection that although the book is a nice way to spend a few hours there is nothing new here at all. This does not mean that I'm ready to give up on the series just yet. I'd be interested to see just where this one is going.

5.0 out of 5 stars She should not exist. He should not love her. 1 May 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Claire Brennan has been attending Emerson Academy for two years now, it's the longest her and her mother have stayed anywhere, and Claire is desperate to stay there for the rest of high school. She is tried of moving around from city to city and it determined to stay in California, Claire loves her prestigious school and her two best friends Erica and Brian whom she shares everything with, so there is no way she's going to tell her Mum about the psychic visions she's been having or the creepy warnings that she's in danger. Fearing that her Mum will pack up everything and they will have to start over somewhere new again, so instead she confines in her best friends about everything that has started happening to her, and they set out to find what this all means, and what type of danger is heading for Claire.

Alec MacKenzie is the new man on campus, fed up with his duties he has chosen Emerson as the ideal hiding place where he can be normal for once, make friends and actually have a life, however he didn't factor one thing into his plan falling in love with Claire. However his story of being orphaned from a young age and living with various relatives all over the world and most recently being emancipated from his rich uncle seem more and more sketchy, making Claire and her friends wonder who he really is.

Their love is forbidden and goes against everything Alec has been taught to believe. And when the reason behind Claire's new abilities are revealed her life is put into even more danger and Alec vows to protect her no matter what the cost.

I really enjoyed this book and couldn't put it down, really exciting and the end will leave you wanting more. I'm just hoping that there is going to be a second book!

3.0 out of 5 stars Its okay 22 Sep 2012
By Ruep
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book is easy enough to read, and quite a nice way to pass an afternoon but its nothing new. The characters could have been pulled out of about any other YA book around at the moment. The secondary charaters i dont think were particularly well developed. I dont really feel like i learned anything about them. An okay read.. nothing special.
