Format: Mass Market Paperback
'Forbidden Nights with a Vampire' is standard fare reading - it's enjoyable, it has a variety of characters (vampire, werewolf, mortal) and action here and there to spice up the story. However this reader finds that the series has become perhaps a little bland and predictable.

This story focuses on Vanda Barkowski, one of Roman Draganesti's former harem. She's a relatively young vampire who seems prickly and tries to keep people away. Her harmless flirting with mortal day guard Phil Jones was just something that happened. But Phil is now back in her life and seems to have grown rather more forceful and difficult to ignore. When it seems as though Vanda's life may be in danger, Phil wants to protect her; but he has a secret which Vanda may not be able to cope with, as well as rules with regard to fraternising with people he is guarding. But can he help to unpeel Vanda's prickly nature and her short temper, and can they play their part in the fight against the Malcontents.

Phil and Vanda's relationship in this story felt rather rushed. I was also unsure what the author's take was on Phil's breaking the rules of fraternisation with those he is guarding - he managed to resist Vanda for years previously but now can't see to do so, even though he has two honourable reasons for not having a relationship with her. That aside, the overall story continued much in the vein of the other books, with a romance intermingled with attacks by the malcontents. Although I enjoyed this book I also found it rather lightweight and feel that the earlier books in the story had a bit more 'bite'.

For the last three years Vanda Barkowski has managed her own Vamp nightclub, where sexy Vamp men dance and strip for excited Vamp women. With her purple-dyed hair, purple catsuit and whip coiled around her waist, Vanda lives to shock. She also has something of an anger management problem, and now the Coven Master, Roman Dragenesti, has ordered her to undergo anger management sessions. Again.
Only one man steps forward to sponsor the fiery vampire: Phil Jones, a mortal and Vanda's day guard from when she was a part of the Covern Master's harem for five years. During that time, she flirted outrageously with the attractive young man, but she was forbidden to him. Now, as her sponsor, she's again forbidden to him but Phil's not about to let that get in his way.
What Vanda doesn't realise is that Phil is a werewolf - and an Alpha, meaning he can summon the power of his wolf and change at will. Trying to get to the root of her fears and anger, Phil slowly uncovers Vanda's harrowing past in Europe during the Second World War - and her terror of wolves.
Now faced with an imminent battle between the synthetic-blood-drinking Vamps and the mortal-drinking Malcontents, secrets will out and the truth will have to be faced.
The last couple of Sparks novels have been a lot of run to read - up there with Lynsay Sands and Katie MacAlister. Vanda is a delight: foul-mouthed, hot-tempered, yet beneath it all riddled with guilt and loneliness.
Phil was a breath of fresh air: unpretentious, calm, sexy, doesn't beat about the bush but goes for what he wants with single-minded determination. This story was also refreshing in that it didn't have the classic romance arc of him and her falling in love, she discovers his secret and runs away, he has to prove himself to her, he gets her back.

I absolutely LOVE Kerrelyn Sparks!! I've read all her books to date and this is one of my fave's. I love how Vanda tries to hide how she really feels about Phil and other things, by acting all tough on the outside. I love how her shield starts to break down around her and she eventually realizes maybe she's not as strong and she would like to think and that she also loves Phil! Such a good book.

I think Kerreyln Sparks has totally changed the way that vampire's are portrayed.
This whole series has made me laugh and I love the very 'normal' way in which vampires live and love and make fools of themselves.
I think it is a great change from the darker more sensual vampire romances that flooded the market a number of years ago!
I think everyone should buy the whole series! I have and future titles are always waiting in my basket!

Love these books. This time Vanda (vampire) and Phil (werewolf) get together over a background of good vamps fighting bad vamps. Author is a great story teller and this series of books has you gripped from start to finish.
